Trust me it's not easy keeping your eye on the road and your eyes on your load. Anyway met Drivers that had their kids with them on their routes so it can be a good option. Some of them drive Big rigs in the summer too. Good Luck in your search. One more item you'll have to get fingerprints and background checks, which again they pay for, and that all adds up if you decide to get Passport or Twic later on!

School bus drivers don't make much.

Truck driving consists of working up to 14 hours a day. It's hard work and trying to find time to be a mother.

Can you give us more info to help you better.

Who will watch your kids ?

    Brandi and Longarm Thank this.

Depends on the area Truckduo, if you dont have daycare expenses and do extra trips the money is not too bad. I just gave an option to get her started with a Cdl B that may be paid for. I tried the Beer hauling gig and would not be one to suggest that.

Here is an answer you might want to check out on... Get you Class A thru a school.... Check your local union and Haul Rock or Asphalt or maybe a local municipality so you can also run a plow and salt shaker in the winter. OTR for a woman with 2 small kids is hard on both you and your kids especially with no one to watch them... Good luck to you... Trucking was good to me for the 43 yrs I did it but I did it as an owner operator....

I know it can be long, hard work but I'm prepared for that. I don't have much choice anyway and it's got to beat sitting at a desk all day. ;) I'd even be willing to work for a bit less pay than the norm for a period of time if someone would invest in me and put me to work.

My boys would spend most of their time in daycare/school with their dad picking them up after if I am unable.

What other info should I share? I have only had one accident almost 8 years ago. No criminal record, etc.

Well I think the ideas are great. you can try to find a local company that brings you home daily as a driver but hours are difficult typically. You need support from home with kids.

You know it is hard enough with people at home to take care of things but after 10 or 14 hours a day, you are tired and your kids will end up suffering in the long run. Even if this all sounds great and you admire truck drivers, it is a hard job and it is made harder with families waiting for you at home.

If you want to really be a truck driver, which isn't really that great of a job, then take it from someone who does more than just drive. I would start with looking at UPS or FedEx and get a job on the dock. When they have an opportunity to move into transport, ask about it, both will train (or pay for training) and because you are already hired, then you don't have to go through the BS - just start driving. They do this as does Pepsi and Coke (I wouldn't really recommend coke in my area, they hire idiots who think they know how to drive).
