I have been retired from driving since 2012 and have the utmost urge to return to trucking. This time I need to get a new Class A with endorsements before looking. I drove for 44 years and over 3 million miles and had a clean driving record. My wife wants to be a permanent passenger and not drive and I have a few things that I need to consider:
    1-I live in Ocala, Fl
2-I want to drive SE Regional only and home on weekends
3-I want no touch freight or at least lumper handled
4-No super single tires and prefer manual transmissions
Does this sound like a dream or does anyone know of a company that might consider a 66 year old experienced driver? I hope to get some response on this. Everyone be safe, courteous and prosperous.

As far as what company to choose i cant help. But you wont have any problems at all getting on at age 66 as long as you pass the physical.

The majority of companies require either recent verifiable experience or a refresher and possibly even riding with a trainer. There are some small mom and pops that would *maybe* overlook a refresher if possible...you'll have to nose around and do some shopping/homework. Find a carrier you're interested in and go put an app in. With your experience in trucking you pretty much already know what needs to be done I'm sure. Good luck to you.

You're gonna do just fine. This industry is in desperate need of good, experienced drivers. What your looking for in a company, is not hard to find at all. Best of luck and see ya on the highway!

As part of the Dart Express fleet, you will:
    ■Drive a daycab tractor
    ■Operate 5-6 days a week
    ■Get home daily
    ■Excellent pay and benefits

Big G Express, out of Shelbyville TN, will hire you once you get your CDL back. They're not real picky about "recent" experience. They will count your 44 years as experience. My wife and I both worked there for years and they are a great outfit. Home every weekend, new KWs (no autos), APUs with 1800w inverters, 99% east of the Mississippi (you will go to PA and NJ a lot though, but no NYC).
