Wants help for truckers

The Christian Democrats thinks that Dutch Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings do more to help lorry drivers in the European Union. MP Ger Koopmans says that all sorts of rules and limitations are turning truckers into "road accountants".

The MP, who traveled to Italy with a truck driver, has drawn up a top ten list of annoyances, including a shortage of parking spaces and various European toll systems. Limitations on driving hours and working conditions are also a source of annoyance.

Mr Koopmans says lorry drivers have to continually take into consideration whether they will be able to find another parking space or get to the end of the journey without breaking the rules.
