Before I start I want to clarify that this was just my experience with stevens, things may be different for you.
I started by filling out the online app. Then I spoke with the recruiter on the phone, I filled out another app that was emailed to me which I then faxed back to them, I had to get the police reports from the 3 accidents I've had ( most recent one being 6 years ago)and fax them to the recruiter, after all that they told me I was good to come for their training so I set up a date to start. The week before I was supposed to start training I called to confirm, they told I was good and they would see me when I got there.
Day 1- I get there and my name is not on the roster for the class and my recruiter no longer works there. No big deal they said I could stay. Nothing else happened that day except a lot of paperwork.
Day 2- Physicals I went and did the drug test, no problem, I do the eye and hearing tests, no problem, they ask me to show them all my prescriptions. I do they write it down and tell me to go back to the classroom, problem. I wait 3 hours the call me back down to the clinic. 2 of the meds are a problem, pain killer and a muscle relaxer, I told them they were to be taken as needed and I hadn't taken any of them. They could count them and see they were all there. Doesn't matter I need to Hwy a Dr.s note say I can "stop taking them", and they were sending me home to get it.
I got on the phone with my Dr.s office and told them what I needed. They faxed to note to Stevens within 2 hours. They still sent me home.
I got home the next day, waited 2 days and called them to say what was going on they say I'm cleared and can come back, to call the recruitment line to set up a date to restart. I call them they say they can't find any of my paperwork. I kept copies of everything so I faxed it all back to them ($25). I call back the next day they tell me they decided not to hire me, that I shouldn't have been told to come out there to begin with.
And because of that ordeal I would not recommend Stevens to anyone just starting out .
warning to those thinking about stevens

-
Ok so what else happened? I.highly doubt everything was going splendid and Stevens just said, "hey we know you been training 3 weeks, but were not interested anymore"cuzzin it Thanks this.
-
that as much as i know all he really told me was they showed up to the Dallas terminal...they put him and about another dozen or so "trainees" in a room and told them they were going home.that's about all he told me....
-
but either way driver....sounds like something else caused a roadblock on your journey to become a company man for Stevens
-
I believe you. Years ago I also applied to Stevens. Since I am self employed that led to a few extra hassles. The problem was each time I completed the necessary paperwork there would be another issue that they neglected to tell me about. For instance I was told to give them three years of tax returns. Then when I did that I was told "Oh, tax returns filled out by hand don't count. Now you need to arrange to have the IRS fax a transcript directly to us." (I've never heard of anyone else with this policy, not even the government)
As I started that and when I called back again I was told by the recruiter that they seemed to have lost my application (when they previously acknowledged it). I took that as a sign and decided to tell them to cancel my application anyway.
At the very least Stevens is more strict and anal about issues than the average company. At worst they just don't care about you and are incompetent. -
Stevens is really really anal on any existing medical condition. It might have been 30 years ago but their Doc is GOD. If you have had a condition in the past but your doctor has cleared you then smile and don't mention it, pass their physical and move on. Oddly enough there is no test for IQ in this industry and the dumbest, most stupid people end up driving a truck.
Apply elsewhere, lots of other companies out there willing to train you, and learn from this experience when you come to the physical and keep the meds your not taking at home. Good luck.Last edited: Nov 14, 2012
Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
Pain killers and muscle relaxers for what?
-
I'm betting on incompetent.
-
Those don't mix well with driving at all, especially the muscle relaxers. I just got off those two months ago following my spinal surgery, and them things put me to sleep pretty much every time I took one. That was even after being on them for over a year.Hitman and Corporal_Clegg Thank this.
