I have a paccar and have had no issues with anything especially the def, it has been flawless, I knew I was at the point where I should have the dpf cleaned but was afraid they would screw some thing up and sure enough. I was reading the mechanics notes and to his credit he was honest or stupid , among the entrys were,
#1- noticed the plastic nut holding the aftertreatment harness main plug is broke, translation- he broke it trying to take it off otherwise I would have had problems before.
#2- put a zip tie around the sensor because the nut was broken
#3- spent 45 minutes looking for a nut to replace it
#4- got the side steps and fairings but couldn't figure out how they went on, had head tech show me how to put them on
#5- tried to unplug the sensor but it wouldn't come undone, had tech assist with unplugging it
#6- tech said the replacement nut was the wrong one, plugged sensor back in and put a zip tie to hold in place
Apparently when they started the truck it went into shutdown mode , the daytime mechanic noticed that the dpf/scr barrel connector was not hooked up correctly, corrected, cleared the codes. I'm wondering what if any damage that may have done, so you can understand my concern. It didn't take long for my fears to be realized. From the time I left the emissions lights started to come on and go out, then the red def lights started to do the same ,later the lights started to flash and the truck derated 25 %, then everything went out and the truck ran for a couple days, I noticed that my def Guage wasn't moving from full when it should have been about 3/4 after about 7 or 800 miles, I went to check it by seeing how much def it would take and when it only took 1 gallon I realized it was hardly using any, so now there's a bigger problem , I got it into peterbilt where the diagnostics said there was a restriction somewhere in the def, I explained what had happened at the previous shop and that maybe they should check the dpf side but of course the computer said it was on the def side and because of paccar's ridiculous policy that they are only authorized to work on what the computer tells them that's what they did, they checked the pump, lines, dozer and even dropped the def tank and physically inspected it, of course they didn't find anything and buttoned the truck up cleared the codes and said it was ready. Ready for what I asked ? You didn't fix anything, you cleared the codes which we know will only last long enough to get me out of here but the problem is still there and I will just break down again 60 miles down the road.He said , I did all I'm authorized to do , I said, are you kidding me nothing's been fixed , obviously the diagnostics are wrong, how can you send a truck back out knowing you didn't fix anything. I am now finding out that this is a pretty common practice with paccar , computer throws the wrong code they check it out and when they can't find anything wrong , send it back out just to break down again and then want to charge the customer for absolutely nothing, unbelievable. Well I was wrong , it waited 100 miles to go down again, towed to another peterbilt and once again where I tried to explain what had happened before but did they listen ? No, they went right back to the computer where it once again said there was a restriction and where they once again looked at exactly the same thing , proceed to find nothing , put it back together and had the nerve to hand me a $2500 bill to go along with the $1400 bill from the other shop, I just looked at them and asked if they were insane, I asked is it common practice for the paccar diagnostic to be wrong this often and you seriously try to charge the customer for work that does absolutely nothing to fix the problem and if it isn't wrong and 2 shops couldn't see the problem then we have a competency issue. I understand that it's not the shops that they are only doing what the computer tells them but for the life of me it doesn't make any sense that a company can put something on the market that they can't correctly diagnose and think they can charge the customer The warranty manager there was great and he told me that he ends up eating a lot of those bills and that paccar only reimburses him for only about half, maddening. He didn't know about what had happened at the first shop and offered to comp me 11/2 hours and had his mechanic check some of the connections on the dpf side he said they were okay but I told him what had happened when they started it and that another mechanic had corrected the wiring, he also was concerned about any damage that may have happened but not as concerned as after he read the mechanics notes on the first invoice, he had a real concern about the mechanics qualifications and whether he was mx qualified, he tried to get information from that dealer but they wouldn't tell him anything, he seems to think they are hiding something. I guess I should have mentioned that I do have the 4 year 500,000 mile warranty but according to them doesn't cover anything which is really interesting considering that there was never any answer to what was wrong so how would you know it wasn't covered? I'm sorry that this was so long and I guess my question really is how can they expect us to pay for something like this when it obvious that nothing was ever correctly diagnosed much less fixed and if you have an idea as to why the def isn't being utilized, I know the obvious reasons but apparently that's not it . I just wanted you to know how great it is to have someone such as yourself out there to help us out in these situations. Thank you

We purchased our 2015 Pete with a cummins motor 12/29/14. Oct 8 with 3 58073 miles, lead showed up in the oil. The vin # 295078. Is there any warranty left? All maintenances and repairs were done as required. Isnt this early to need a new engine?

Failures can happen at any stage of an engine or any component for that matter.

Its possible for your engine to still have some major component coverage but I doubt it. Assuming its a major repair you may be better off going to your local dealer who you have hopefully a good relationship with and ask them to look at it and file for some Cummins policy assistance.

Because you didn't buy extended warranty, you won't get any labor assistance but they might offer a good amount on the parts cost. Even better, you'll still retain the parts warranty on anything you need replaced.

I have a 579 that is currently having the clutch done with only 335000 miles on it and it's two and a half years old.

The last 6 of the vin is 360163.

Would any of the clutch work be covered?

I haven't asked the dealer yet but I believe I may have the proper extended warranty.

    Thank you

Your warranty on the clutch is 2 years / 200,000 miles. You do not have clutch extended warranty.

Do you know if flywheel housing leaks are covered under the DC1 extended warranty through Cummins?
