Anyone know of a salvage yard around the Asheville NC area? Freightliner has a $58k fix and i really don't want to sign it off to the dealer.

'Cause of this was a damaged rod in a 5 month old reman Detroit DD15 with 50000 miles. Installed by Freightliner Walton KY. Does anyone know of any lawyers in that area? I'm having trouble with someone taking my case.

This is a real situation. A mop bucket in Wal Mart was not tripped over. Such is the cases that go to court nowadays. And we look out of our windows and ponder why oh why....

Who sold you the motor? Did it come with a warranty? Will the seller of the motor honor the warranty? Why wont a lawyer take your case?

I took the freightliner to the dealer in Walton KY with a coolant leaking into the engine. They suggested a rebuild which I did. During the test they blew the motor. Detroit gave them a new long block. Drove the truck for 5 months and a rod snapped. Cam damage and head damage too. Because i paid for a rebuild and not a new long block they say it is not covered by the warranty.

I don't know why a lawyer won't take the case. Probably because there is no real money in it for them. Now if I had slipped on a banana skin at the dealership that would be a different story,

Were the rods replaced when you got your rebuild ?

If so parts should be covered for 1 year, no?

Personally, I would be more concerned with the labor costs than the parts. You might be able get them to eat the labor and you cover the parts. I know it's not a slam dunk for you but it's better than the loss you get from being down during a very long drawn out legal battle.

Yes. It was a reman block straight out of the factory. It should be covered, yes. As i said, as I paid for the rebuild and not the block, they won't cover it because I did not pay for the block, only the rebuild. Even though it was in the bay when the engine blew after the rebuild. I got the block because they screwed up the rebuild.

They won't do this as the truck is in Canton NC. I got pro active and bought a new truck so I am running. The freightliner is in bits and pieces in the shop at Freightliner Canton. This has been going on 4 months already. I have nothing to lose with a long, drawn out legal battle.

In that case, fight it tooth and nail. You were smart to set the stage for an occurrence. Did Detroit give them JUST the block? Or was it loaded with the crank, rods etc?

I have been down this similar road with DDC. My factory replacement did not fail however. They gave me standard complete warranty from time of install. 2 years, 200, or 250k.

By pass dealer and speak with area rep. Dont mention attorney directly. Thier company policy is to stop communication once a lawyer is mentioned. Ask to take it to a Detroit shop and get away from the FL dealer. They were the ones giving me the run around.

    Best of luck.

It was a complete bottom end. Crank and all. Problem is now, the damage has extended to the top end too. To get the whole engine right it's a $58k job now.
It's a 2012 so i won't be fixing it if i'm paying for it. But i would rather a scap yard take it than let Freightliner take the title just out of convienience for me.
Also i was only getting 6.2 on that truck and over 8 on what i'm in now and that adds up quickly.

I'm past caring about the truck. It is what it is. It's the principal of them smiling in your face every time they take your money and giving you the shaft when there is a problem.
