This was on a 2 lane stratch of I-20 in Louisana. A blue truck had just merged on the interstate and was slowly building up speed. I check my mirror, and theres a red KW far back(3 or 4 truck lengths estimated). A couple seconds later, I rechecked the mirror to see if the red KW was coming fast. He wasnt, so I pull out to pass the blue truck.
While passing the blue truck, they have gotten up to speed and start going faster than me, leaving me hanging out in the left lane. By this time, the red KW is on my tail and starts to get in the right lane to pass me! I put on my signal to get back in the right lane and I hear from him on the CB that I need to make up my mind. I tell the supertrucker if he wasnt tailgating, then he would have seen the truck on my right. A few more words exchanged and that was the end of it.
What do you think here? Was I wrong?
BTW, I cruise at 65. I ramp it up to 70 to quickly pass, but it doesnt do much good when the passee starts to speed up(common 4wheeler trick).
was I wrong to be in left lane?

I think you did good. You were being courteous. You can't help that other people are impatient.
I bet you saw that red KW 5 miles down the road at the next rest stop? Usually how that works out for me. I get passed by the same impatient pricks a few times every day.alds, panhandlepat and Wiseguywireless Thank this. -
I always hated getting hung out to dry like that. It always ticked me off that the same guys complaining that I was out there were the same ones that couldn't do the speed limit so i started passing them in my 63 mile an hour truck. I really hated it when they would speed up after i got 3/4 of the way past them.

Yeah, its happened before too. Mostly by the 4 wheeled variety, but theyre braindead, so it doesnt suprise me. This instance did though. When I merge and another truck gets in the left lane to pass as Im building up speed, Ill let off for a bit to let them back in the right lane...then Ill pass later. This guy was just impatient and Im sure it is common practice for him.

You can't please everybody. And you certianly can't retrain a dumb### in a red KW. But you did the right thing.panhandlepat Thanks this. -
IF all else fails and you reeeeally just wanna return the favor of pissing someone off: Pick up your mic and tell the polite driver who's offering: "I've told ya and told ya..... your mouth just isn't quite pretty enough." Be prepared to A) turn off your radio, and B) for a fight if the other driver really doesn't have a sense of humor. -
Please guys... understand that I'm laughing as I write this...
As a four-wheeler, I'm frequently reminded here on the forum that proper merging requires me to be at highway speed when moving onto the highway from the acceleration lane. However some of the drivers in this thread are commiserating with longbedGTs about the behavior of other vehicles as they (the drivers) pick up speed after merging.
It sounds to me like the problem could be solved by teaching truckers how to merge properly. :smt064
