was I wrong to be in left lane?

Trust me when I say, "If my truck would accelerate to 70 mph on the ramp, I would be doing 70 when I merged."

I'm usually doing a lot more, when I merge in my car.

    Apples and oranges.

But...but...but... what happens when you're at 70 mph, the acceleration lane ends, and both lanes to your left are full? Frankly, I don't have the guts to slip into that three carlength space between vehicles going 60 mph.

I refuse to make another driver brake to let me onto the highway. I trust my brakes, but I'm not trusting his.

Of course, maybe I just need to get out onto the "open road" more often and get away from the congested highways in this area. That, in itself, is apples and oranges. :yes2557:

I understand most of the criticisms against us, and I really do try to learn and adapt my behavior around big trucks based on what I read here.

Four-wheelers get hammered on a lot here... and being a truckers forum, I expect that. You folks put up with a lot and this is a safe place to vent. But sometimes it's hard being the token four-wheeler amidst all the crap we are being held accountable for here. (When I say "here", I'm talking about the forum in general, not this thread.)

Not being a trucker, I have very little to constructively contribute to the boards. Sometimes I will chime in with an opposing viewpoint... and sometimes I'll play a bit of devil's advocate just for the h-e-double L of it. But I'm sincere when I say I have a lot of respect for you folks on the road day-in and day-out. Our country would collapse without you.

    Thank you, drivers!

First, you're welcome. Second, and referring the the first statement, not that it would take an advanced degree in Economics, which I happen to have, to know that, but most folks have absolutely no idea how very true the first statement really is.

If you took all the trucks off the road simultaneously, within six hours of the news getting out, there would be a fist fight over the last roll of toilet paper in a grocery store. Within one tank of gasoline, you'd be stranded except for walking. Within a week, nearly everyone in the country, would be without a job.

You did the right thing if anything the driver merging should had let you gone by then pass you instead of leaving you out to dry.

Not a problem, as long as there's a shoulder and a set of blinkers. Stopping at the bottom of the ramp unnecessarily, only exacerbates the problem. I realize you have no choice sometimes. But that's another topic.

The other driver being aware of the situation should be making you room. There are times that can't happen. But more often than not, most drivers will back out of it a bit in congested areas. The cluster #### occurs when the person on the ramp fails to notice what's going on.

I have to admit to assisting a car through the barrels in OK. He was coming down the ramp in construction, I had slowed to make it easier, then he slowed more, then decided "too late" to gun it. He had no where to go except into the barrels. Cause I #### sure wasn't going through the barrels, or taking the big truck behind me through my trailer.

What really ##### me off. Is the prize winners from Swift and VF, who refused to move over with no one else on the road with them. There's no excuse for being a complete ###. None.

Its pretty difficult to take a 40 ton 72 ft vehicle that goes 0-60 in 1.5 miles and merge seamlessly into traffic with 50 tailgating cars that are traveling 20mph faster than you. We can not merge as easily as cars can.

Back to topic. Thanks for the reassurance everyone!

Effective immediately trucks will now be required to have Nitrous tanks and parachutes in order to assist in merging onto highways and interstates. (Note) We are currently trying to work the bugs out of the parachute system by attempting to make it Self-Reloading.

Please stay tuned for more bulletins.......:biggrin_25525:

The real problem here was tailgating by the Red KW...Just love it when you look in the mirror and all you can see of the truck behind you...Is the shadow on the ground..

I'm considering putting in a seperate hand control switch...that just turns on the brake lights...Maybe break a few of these knot-heads....

At a guess, Id say 5 feet was his distance. He was insanely close.
