It also includes reserve duty and reserve training, I spent the last 4 of my 8 doing reserve(USMC) (Where I learned to drive semi) and having a job going over the road and getting held up does not get you an excuse for not showing up for formation on time either
If you still want to be around trucks, you could go to a Pilot truck stop and work at Subway. The job would require more mental capacity, as you will then have to ask if the customer wants to make their purchase a combo with chips and a drink, instread of trying to upsell fries.
Stranger, don't need to go that far, my '96 fld is sitting on my lawn waiting for me to decide what to do with it. Getting a new (used) one this April
got fired on superbowl weekend, that monday really, Called me into the office # joplin. wanted me to pay half on a mech. bill told them i did not think i was responceable for it. After two diffrent meetings they desided to take the money anyway. I said if you can do that why are we in here. so now were just talking ( as i look back at it i think they were probing me with questions) and i asked were they Laying Off and Tranning Students at the same time. They Blew up on me! Told me that wasent why we were in their. You already told me you were taking my money anyway! ended up Firing me for slow Trip Packs. story to long to post here check the rest # my site, By the way love this site will be a regular. thnx.
Breaks my heart lookin at it though, made alot of money with it, was a great truck, hate to see it just sittin there rotten away
You did defend them alot, thats what sucks...they watch this thread, like all companies do, and they still cut a guy that has been with them long time and stuck up for them....Still wishen you the best in what you decide to do..something better will come along. word to the wise guys, word is out amongst most of the drivers, and on here, if your from MI or FL, dont sign on for orientation...you will work for scraps and get let go before you know what hit ya. I agree with alot of others on here that maybe company is doing it to get cheap labor, i dont know, but ya can tell from the forum alone that for weeks if not months, those 2 areas are not a hire zone right now, im shocked people from there are still signing up, they got to know they wont be staying. to the poster who said her hubby goes in for service tomarrow, all i know is if your due for service, and been good boy,.,lol, he should be ok....its getten around fast that if your called in to terminal out of the blue...you best be dumpen your stuff, cuz your probably getten the ax. saddest thing is, from what we are hearing from guys this has happened to, is tha they will wait till your back on the road for monday, then pull you in, just to get canned. even with bus ticket home, so many have had to dump tv's and such with terminal cuz wasnt prepared to pay to ship it home. I personally think tmc is doing this to avoid guys abandoning their trucks while home. I understand tmc doesnt want to have to come get truck, but at least they could give guys time to get all their stuff. so travel light folks....we have seen a few get the ax for no good reason, and some who truly deserved to be fired, but just the same....its a dog eat dog world...everybody is looken out forthemselves....sad but true, especially when there is no other jobs to go to. I hope all this crap ends soon and jobs pick back up, i hate seeing so many foks losen jobs and families suffering, im glad to see some on here are passen around info on jobs hiring to help others out....Bless everyone!! drive safe...sleep safe...and may the miles keep on coming.
I went to work at Leeway in OKC in 1975. They kept me 29 days and then fired me, saying I was'nt team quality. Mind you I had worked for AFL and run bid/team for 3 years with 1 guy. They just wanted cheap labor.
Wasn't there in an article in one of the little truck stop books about reservist and guardsmen who left a job driving, only to come back home to find that job not there anymore. I don't think its right to fire a vet but like you said it's not against the law.
