this is about Schneider National. I was all set to go back to work for them; hotel was registered, orientation was set up and then I was told not to bother. The reason was I got diagnosed with cancer last year and was terminated from Schneider. I am ready ( with a doctors release) to go back to work but I was told that their policy is 1 year cancer ffree before they will consider you coming back. I also received a mesasage on my email that will not be considering me for a driving position. This after telling me I was ready to go.Go Figure. I am not knocking Schneider, just letting everyone know that if you are driving for this company and get very sick, then start looking for another company because more than likely you will not be hired back. They were opkay while I worked there.
was not truthful

Bullrider! Welcome to the Cancer Survivors Team and to TTR! I'm glad you fought and won but this is not something new with us. This crapola does happen. I managed to come back but I came back against doctors orders and screwed the pooch because of it, then I got hired on somewhere else but it wasn't cancer that hit me it was actually a result of 5 weeks of radiation to the head that caused a tumor that when it started to grow had me calling 911 in Victorville, Ca and a flight home and then brain surgery which has pretty much killed my driving career! WHEW! what a long sentence!
You didn't post your age so I have nothing to work with in my next paragraph but if you still want to stay with trucking then expand to another field. Mechanics, yard work, office, sales or if you can wrap your mind around this one dispatch or something along those lines. The good thing about you doing this is you've been there and drivers make better dispatchers or LC's than a college grad! ( Think of the sarge in "the Black Sheep" TV show and how he felt about college boys and how I feel about college kids who think they are dispatcher material and their "it's only 6" on the map" mentality!
I'll lay a bet that it's not Schneider but their medical AND causality insurance company not wanting you back as as you and I and every other Cancer Survivor knows we are a high dollar risk! Not only in higher medical costs but as with me a possible liability on the road.
IDK when you were given the cancer free talk by your doctors or which one of the thousand or so cancers you had but don't just hang the hat on Schneider but try other companies. Maybe if you go to the Trucking Jobs Thread and put in there your experience and your prognosis on your cancer maybe an honest owner will answer your post!
Anyway welcome back to the land of the Alive!25(2)+2, Larryparker, Injun and 1 other person Thank this. -
So is this written anywhere in their employee handbook ( if there is one) ? I for ome would go over the head of the person who told you this.

I ain't making any excuses for them, I can guarantee you it wasn't personal, but a business decision for them. To save money.... Congratulations on beating Cancer!!!
