you know nothing about the dairy industry so please dont comment about protocol. that was the 2nd milk plant i worked in and the 3rd food plant in a 12 year period. 1st of all its not food safety protocol. 2. i was not in the building and never attempted to do it in the building DONT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS 3. the changed their little BS policy 3 times. when i was hired i went outside no big deal, then it changed to go to the car. ok i dealt with that. then it changed to i cant even go to my own car. these people went way and beyond decency. the general manager told me he didnt like the sugar in my iced tea. NOT ONCE but 3 times. the first couple of times i told him he voiced his concern, but it was none of his concern. the first time i went to my supervisor and told him it had it stop. he apologized because he knew he was dead wrong.
my boss told me i had to quit vaping, and actually told me to seek nicotine addiction treatment. i told him it was none of his concern. this went on for a 1-1/2 years. all ever expected out of these people was to let me do my job and MYOB. i dont ever want to see any of them again these were the very worst scum of the earth i ever worked for.
the woman that caught me OUTSIDE on BREAK is a known alcoholic and comes to work with a hangover, but since she's management she gets away with it. she is an awful person and NONE of the rank and file people like her. she's nothing but a snake. i DIDNT like her as a person long before any of this transpired. he own husband tells people she's a back stabber.
can you consume tobacco OR vapor products in the building NO of course not. the other 2 plants i worked at had designated smoking areas outside. this was 100% about controlling the employee above and beyond work performance.
people always assume that i got fired because i was doing it in the building, nothing is further from the truth. in retrospect i would have been better off doing in the bathroom.
i quit smoking cigarettes, dont consume any illegal product, and i dont drink. i have ONE vice and i really wish people would leave it alone.
i dont want anything to do with any of these people AND the relatives END OF TOPIC
was offered a job in heavy haul is it a bad idea for someone with only 7 mo?

the issue with a 3am start? i have a 6 year old son i sometimes have by myself while the wife is at work. he isnt going to go to bed a 6pm it just isnt going to happen. my current job has a start time of 5:15AM which i have to wake up at 4:15am on many days and its not easy getting him to bed so i can get some sleep.
can i do 4:15am wake up, yes but i really dont want to wake at 2am if he doesn't go to bed till 9pm -
Simple fact still remains: you KNEW what the policy was, and you CHOSE to violate that policy. If you don't like the policy an employer might have, DON'T WORK THERE! Sounds to me like you're PO'd at them for doing you a favor.
And put the kid to bed at whatever time YOU choose. YOU are the parent, he is the child. An 8:00 bed time still gives you 6 hrs to sleep before that 2:00am alarm goes off, which is more than sufficient. That was my bed time when I was his age, and I survived...so will he. If you need more sleep than that, make bed time earlier, but that shouldn't be necessary. Most nights, I'm lucky to get 4 hours between my head hitting the pillow and my alarm going off because my wife works late and I enjoy staying up and winding down with her.
Bottom line, you're an adult. Act like it. -
this "policy" is something that should have been discussed before a job was offered. in a way they did do me a favor. they TRIED to deny my unemployment and lost. if i just up and quit i would not receive benefits. unemployment states that in a situation like that, they have to take disciplinary action before termination unless its a serous offense like theft or willful destruction of property.

It's not my place to tell you how to parent, but my kids went to bed at 8 when they were his age. Heck they are 12 and still go to bed at 9 on weekdays.
johndeere4020 Thanks this. -
I will say though an alarm at 2 am really sucks
