Was talking to a driver from OD at Costco

    We both were doing pick ups. We started talking and he told me they make $28 there. I couldn't believe it.

    I wanted to go apply in person the next day and work for them but then he mentioned they don't get paid OT. They have to pay for their health insurance and they're non Union.

    I guess grass is not always greener but sounds like a good option if anybody is interested

    Different isn't always better. Thanks for the info, seems to me that Reddaway offers a good balance.

    I guess just depends what you like or what you look for... To me it's perfect, nobody bothers you and bosses are awesome

    Hmm... Interesting.

    OD's top scale is apparently in line with ours.

    As my late mother-in-law used to say, the grass may be greener on the other side but it's still grass.

    OD does pay well. The no overtime thing isn't a deal breaker for me, although I'm not P&D so it doesn't affect me anyway. Still, there are plenty of jobs in other industries that don't pay that much at OT rates. No matter what you get, someone isn't happy about it.

    Non-union is a personal preference. I see it as a plus. I hate the us/them mentality. I used to have a terminal manager that let me borrow his boat whenever I wanted. It would have been a difficult situation if I had to feel honor bound to sink it.

    Yeah $28 is pretty good hourly pay. If I wasn't happy here I would be trying hard to get with them.

    When I was doing P&D, I was talking with an OD driver and we did the math. It turned out we made the same in a 50-hour week. I made less per hour, but OT after 40. Anything above 50, I was better off, and anything below 50, he was better off. The ironic part was I rarely got close to 50 and he wished he could work fewer than 50.

    We all just have to compare the entire package including healthcare, 401k match / pension, profit sharing, and atmosphere / employee morale. Overall, I'm extremely happy where I landed.

    That's exactly what my co-worker keeps telling me. I make less but feel happy where I am. I have a good relationship with pretty much all my 'customers'. There's one guy at a Honda where I deliver tires that always tells me the same thing: "Thank you for the great customer service", "you're the best truck driver that comes here", etc.

    One guy at a bikes place this morning told me I was the fastest to unload all his bikes and that he gets some slow guys that annoy him and take an absurd amount of time to unload everything.

    It'd be cool making more $ but I'll stay loyal to Reddaway for now

    Worked with a guy for 3 years that was at Reddaway. He found out recently that if he stayed, he'd be the #3 driver in linehaul. Pulled Triples across Nevada from Reno. He did linehaul for years but did about 10-15 years P&D first with a few other companies. I get 100% paid benefits and make good money but it's sadly not enough for California. We may move up to Washington state in a few years. Reddaway is on my list of companies bc of the paid benefits. Waste Management is an option as is UPS (I worked there before)

    Washington state is a great place to live. Of course, I may be a little biased, having lived here my whole life.
    As far as Reddaway and paid benefits, I'm guessing that's whether you work at a union terminal or not. For example: from what I recall, the Seattle terminal is union, the Tacoma terminal is not.
