as for getting my license, i made a big screw up by getting them and not using right away. i got them in may of 2010. then i got a speeding ticket, which wasnt me , but the car that passed me. i could not get hired until that got off my record. i tried to fight it but it was trooper against me and we all know how that turned out. it is a little frustrating because now i will have to take a refresher course for most companies to even give me a second look. i did get a call from western express today and it seems to be looking good so far. i have seen the bad talk about this company but we all have to start somewhere right? if i survive them for about 6 months, the doors to other companies will be a little more welcoming i think. lets see how this goes. like i said, i aint giving up.

Well you do gotta start somewhere. 6 months is good, a yr is better. IF you can take their B.S. Just remember your end goal.

My husband has had a Class "A" since it was grandfathered over from a Chauffeurs license. Kicker is that he drove heavy equipment, dump trucks, cement truck's and for 6 months a Garbage truck.... all class "B" vehicles.

Upshot ( long story, short) it took working for a company with very marginal trucks before he could get a good job driving a semi. Even with an active class "A". He probably could have taken a refresher and had better luck getting that first job driving a Semi. Three years later all driving semi's local. He had to work for a "mega-carrier" for 6 months, J.B. Hunt, before he could get on with a "good" company. He was actually making pretty good money with them.

i just went today and got a copy of my MVR. as i thought, it is spotless now, and i am going to attach it to every application in the comments box. then below it, im gonna type in " you dont get any better than that" then they cant say that my MVR is the reason for not hiring me. next im having my own background check done. then if i have to, i will email that to them. these people know better than to mess with me, im a hillbilly with my father's hard head and my mother's determination. thats a heck of a combination. lol.

Truckers have a right to know why they are being denied employment, particularly if they are denied employment because of a DAC Report, criminal background report, credit report, employment background report, MVR, or other type of consumer report. If a trucking company is going to use a report to deny a trucker a job, it has to follow the federal statutes which permit them to pull these reports in the first place. For example, if you apply in person, the trucking company is supposed to first provide you with a copy of the report plus a summary of your consumer rights (the summary tells you how to contact the reporting agency, how to dispute the report etc) BEFORE the trucking company declines you the job. This gives the trucker a chance to address any inaccuracies or errors BEFORE a decision is made. If a trucker applies on-line, by fax, over the phone or by other 'non-in-person' means, the trucking company may decline the employment based on the report, but it must provide the trucker with notice of who the reporting agency was, how to contact the agency, how to get a free copy of the report (and get the one used by the carrier) and how to dispute the report. Trucking companies that fail to do this are violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and may be subject to federal law suits.

Your initial post sounded like you didn't know why you weren't hired, when in fact, you did know. Many companies won't hire without a a year of RECENT otr experience. And outside of school, you have no experience at all.

I drove otr for 9 years, drove local for 8 after that. When I decided to come back to otr, I was turned down by a couple of places because I had no recent otr experience.
