As it should be the most qualified people for the job should be working it,however blaming DEI for this accident isn’t the answer. As I said previously this has been a long standing issue-going back over 4 DECADES! Our air traffic control system is overtaxed,we’re dangerously short on air traffic controllers, the ones that are working are overworked, which can lead to fatal consequences, some of the equipment that is being used is obsolete, Congress has known about this, but when the question of who and how it’s going to be paid for they drag their feet!

When I think about this accident I can't help but think of a chain of events that preceded the crash. I have learned this Black Hawk Chopper was involved in a Continuity of Government Training flight. For some reason, the chopper was off course and 100' higher than it should have been. Add to this the normal single Military controller in the Tower at the time was combined with the regular ATC controller because the supervisor had allowed a controller to go home early. Now I have also learned that there were 3 separate plane/chopper incidents over the last 6 days.
It sounds to me that there are some issues with the Army and it also appears that the Air Traffic Control system in the US is broken and in need of action. My daughter is an American Airlines Flight Attendant. I was talking to her several hours ago. She told me of being privy to a conversation between several American Pilots who said that the airspace around DC and NYC was a (redacted.) (think Clint Eastwood term used in the movie Heart Break Ridge)
I am shocked Congress is not calling for hearings and getting the USDOT as well as the FAA to question them about this. Remember this is the same USDOT that oversees the FMCSA!Last edited: Jan 31, 2025

Retired Colorado Springs pilot calls for shutting down commercial traffic at Reagan airport
One of the rules followed when taking off or landing at DCA (in particular Runway 1/19)is IFR(as in “I Fly River”). And for good reason-if you’re taking off to the north (using Runway 1)you have to do an immediate left turn following the Potomac River to avoid prohibited airspace. If you’re landing to south (using Runway 19) it’s an immediate right turn. Both setups involve dealing with crosswinds.
Anyone who deviates into the prohibited airspace is given the FAA “1-800” number-and they WILL BE EXPECTING you to call them!hope not dumb twucker, dave01282000 and tarmadilo Thank this. -

My only question is, why do they have helicopter traffic running perpendicular to short final at Regan National? In my opinion, totally not necessary.dave01282000, hotrod1653 and Speedy356 Thank this. -
Who was the 3rd person ?

As I mentioned earlier, the only reason they didn’t close that airport fifty years ago is that influential Senators and Congressmen didn’t want to have to go 30 miles to either Dulles or BWI to catch a flight.dave01282000, mjd4277 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
