When your in a Union, you have no choice in the matter. You get dispatched out to job sites by an open call if there is one. In local 66 there hasn't been an open call for over 20 years. Which means its up to the journeyman to find work at the 75 shops here in the northwest. The problem is 60 of them are family owned and very very very small. Which means they have like 1 journeyman in there shop and maybe 1 journeyman in the field.
The other 15 shops rotate journeyman out like toilet paper. You work for one company for about 3 months till the job is done. Get kicked to the curb and it just keeps going like that. Its a revolving door effect.
Once you have been in the trade for so long you will noticed that you worked for the same top 5 to top 10 companies. Which everyone in this trade knows everyone. So, when things get very very very slow like they are now.
You won't get work because your not a kiss ###. Meaning all the smart people are unemployed and all the dumb-##### are working because the guys that are working right now need someone standing over them every ####### minute of the day being told what to do and they like that.
Me, I'm not a ####### kiss ###. I work by myself and get the #### job done. That's how I like it.
Granted I have had a great career over the past 15 years. But now its like every time I make a ####### phone call to someone they say:
O YA, WE WILL HIRE YOU NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
NEXT WEEK
OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
For the last ####### few years I've been getting the ####### run around...
When your a material handler the business agents love you and can't get enough of you till you join the apprentice ship then for 5 years they suck your #### so much and tell you o when you turn out you will be making so much money. Blah Blah Blah Blah they tell you the ####### world.
Then when your a journeyman you actually find out how it ####### is..
BACK ####### STABBING AT EVERY ####### CORNER......
I made about 90,000 dollars one year. It was about 5 years ago. I worked all year long.
1 ####### YEAR OUT OF 15 YEARS IS ########.....
44 dollars an hour and a chance at 102,000 dollars a year is ####### awesome in conversation and on paper. BUT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN LOCAL 66.
If I got dispatched out tomorrow morning I would make 44 dollars an hour. If I worked 251 days from the date of hire. I would make close to 102,000 dollars.
The problem is it will never happen with the economy the way it is right now.
There is no buildings being built in seattle. The ones that are being built have a bunch of kiss ##### on them.
