05 Freightliner water temperature not working. Shop said when they plugged in the ecm it showed water temp. When I ground the guage out the needle will max out. Could the guage still be bad? What should I test next?

You ground the gauge it pegs out and with the wire off it goes back to zero?

I'd suspect the sensor is toast. Most trucks of that era had a temperature sensor for the ECM and a seperate one for the gauge.

Both should be in the thermostat housing which is top right/center of the engine just under the upper rad hose.
