Ok I am having a bit of an issue with my trip envelopes.. with getting them completely correct so I thought I would set up a pole to see what my fellow drivers do. So if you are with W/s or have these trips envelopes please feel free to take the pole. Thanks.

i carried a day planner with me in the truck, and filled out starting, state line, and ending mileage as well as the mileage when i reached either a shipper, a stop, or the final receiver. i could therefore easily reconstruct whatever needed to be reconstructed when it came time to fill out the trip envelope.
another tip is to carry a magic marker and write the state line mileage on the inside of the windshield. when you stop, you can write the mileage down on your permanent record and then clean the inside of the windshield.
and listen folks, that trip envelope is the vehicle by which you get paid. no trip envelope, no pay. it makes no sense to move freight from one coast to another and faithfully make your schedule if you don't get paid to do it...

Just what is it that your trip envelope's consist of? What is making them difficult to complete properly? Just courious here..

One way to get the TE done is to either copy the mileage for each state off the QC or if you have a gps that records each state then adjust the mileage for the state that you final in to match your total mileage.

I work for a small company that has us do the mileage for every state driven (I work for an owner operator who is leased onto that company) I use my cell phone, I dial the mileage every state line, and write them down at the end of my shift. It actually really works and you're not searching for a pen and paper or running out of ink or using a magic marker on your windshield lol. That was a good one.

Well, the way I do it isn't really a choice here. I fill out the majority of mine when I get the assignment. Everything but the milage, date entered the state and fuels. Then it's much easier to complete. When I started I had trouble because it "seemed" like there wasn't enough time.
I remembered what my instructor in CDL school told us. "The feeling that there isn't time is an illusion. Don't fall into it as there always is"
He's right. A large part of trucking is "planning ahead". The paperwork is no different I'm finding.
