In my line of work the only rule that causes problems for me is the 30 minute break rule. I run an LTL lane that's about 500 miles M-F. I usually have more than enough hours to complete my run, even in adverse weather. Having been OTR in the past I would say that the 14 hour rule was a PITA, but it doesn't affect me much anymore. The HOS rules really need to be more flexible depending on the type of driving that is being done. The biggest problem with government regulations is that everything is "one size fits all". This causes problems for the many different types of freight hauling that is required for our country's economy. Livestock haulers require certain exceptions, and things work differently if you haul specialized, oversized, tanker, reefer, van, or LTL... It's all a different ball game depending on the nature of the goods being hauled. In summary I think there needs to be more flexibility in the rules.
