i'd imagine, anyone useing a phone for logs. better have a printer.

after all, who wants to look at that small screen????

if i were dot, and you gave me your phone. i'd be asking for paper. some of us old farts cam't see that tiny screen. i'll use my tablet before my phone.

True story! By current feedback that I am getting, they are only asking to see the paper about 10-20% of the time now if you have a program that LOOKS the same as a DOT log on the screen. But it would be much harder to convince them by handing them a phone. Although as I said earlier, things change quickly.

With phone print apps common, it is not too painful these days to connect to a printer with the phone or tablet.

I expect as they get further along in this, the DOT will focus more on the "legal" issue with the logs. Therefore, I expect there will be a move to request copies as required under the rules and if not available a new source of revenue.

Yah. I think they are going to mandate EOBR's and then the whole game will change. (note: not trying to hijack the thread. There are billions of other threads arguing EOBR's here. I am merely mentioning it here because they in fact eliminate the printing requirement relating to this thread.)

From the reading I have seen on the EOBR, it looks like they are going to want them printed as well. Even though they want the ability to communicate with the officer.

    Not a pleasant thought.

But the DOT is somewhat lax when they see a computer log. They will be looking at them in order to fuel the pressure to EOBR.

i'd rather just show em my laptop. specially if they're doing away with divr's.

that $16 i spend for ink every 2 months and $5 for paper once a year. that's one less dinner for me every 2 months.

Do you have a cell phone? I remember drivers in the late 80's and even well into the 90's telling me that "these kids with their cellular phones. They should just learn how to read a map. A real driver doesn't need a fancy phone gadget. If I want to talk to someone, I'll call them."

Do you have an XM or Sirius radio? A tv? A GPS? Pretty clear you have a computer. Just curious where your technology cutoff point is.

$49 for a printer and the officer gets his paper - and he can read the writing every time.
