I went and check-ed out Wedgezilla's new truck today. It is a really nice company truck. It is a 2007 Freightliner Century. It was nice and clean inside and out. He got lucky with his first ride. He is very excited and I am happy for him. Good luck Wedge. Way to go!

Congratulations, and welcome to the wild world of professional driving! Keep us posted with your progress out there.
You have nothing to prove being a new driver. Be a safe driver, pick up and deliver on time, be sure to make the customer happy. When it gets a little too wild, take a deep breath, concentrate on what you're doing and keep that rig between the lines. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there, some with an axe to grind (I think).
Keep your driver manager communications line open, and hopefully he (or she) will be a good ally internally for you. I have a great reputation with my company and I get some good miles. Why? My driver manager knows me well, the planners know I'll do what I say I'll do, and that's just exactly what you want to be known for. Strive hard early to be a driver who keeps his word and doesn't complain.
FWIW, My driver manager told me within the last month that I have a great reputation with him and the planners. I'm doing better than most drivers in our company right now, for exactly the reasons I've just told you. I take what they give me without complaint and I'm grateful for all the miles, both long and short.
When you develop a good reputation, being grateful for any and all miles that you can get without complaint, that goes a long way to having the miles and the eventual paycheck that comes along. Remember, those two short trips add up to long miles. When I've gotten a few too many short trips, I'll ask about a longer mileage load, but it doesn't happen all that often to me.
Hope this helps, and be sure to come back regularly!
