It's that time for me. I've got one year in and I'm planning on moving to where I want to stay come the first of the year.

That brings with it a job search. On the positive side, where I'm looking there are plenty of job postings with a more than livable wage.

But that brings me to the hard part. All these postings are easy on the eyes, promising wages upwards of 70k a year, plus benefits and weekly hometime.

It might be easy when talking to a recruiter. Yeah, you're listening to someone who's said the same Bull time and time again, but you can tell when even they don't believe what they are saying most of the time or when their aim is simply to bring in "fresh meat" versus a good driver.

But in text, you're looking at advertisements. I would imagine that several people have poured over the ad before it was posted to make sure there are no typos, errors and that it's very appealing to anyone looking.

So, what does one look for to weed out the crap-places? Are there keywords, phrases, or anything in particular I should be looking for?

Right now, there's about 20 tabs open in my browser of places I feel like are good. But as I think we've all experienced, it's easy for someone recruiting you to make a promise. They aren't the ones that have to make good on it.

Congrats on staying in longer than the other 99%.

When looking at ads, be realistic. Do you think you're going to make double what you made? No. Do you think the company can really give you 4,000 miles a week? No. Just be realistic, try talking to a driver if you see one at a truck stop.

I don't get it... It's not that hard to do.

Then again, I'm more than willing to do what the next person won't as long as I've got a goal in mind.
If I make it a goal, come hell or high water, It's going to happen.

have you ever given any thought to hauling new cars.........??

they have enclosed trailers, and of course the open one.

you'd have to look for a company near you, or with in a certain miles radius.

The job itself is not the problem, the lifestyle is. It's a sacrifice. Not everyone can give up family, pets, or water cooler talk for a month and come home for 2 days and be happy.

The first time you have diarrehea and 60miles away from any public restroom you will understand. The first holiday you're sitting in traffic 2,000 miles away from home looking at families and friends packed into their cars heading for the beach you will understand

I've certainly given it some thought, and there's a couple companies that are hiring in the area I plan to move to. I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to trying new stuff and learning. In another thread someone recommended trying towing.

I'm less concerned about actual area I'll be moving to, so right now I'm only looking at listings in the Alberta, Ca area. I'll move wherever I can find good work. But that's mostly why I'm asking about not getting suckered in versus good places to work. Besides, i've made a couple threads asking for good companies. Never really got much reply. Chinatown recommended one, but once I'm across the border I don't plan on coming back except to visit family.

...been there. Done both. (Though I wasn't 2000 miles away.)

All I'll say is that I ate some bad TS food once. I don't go back to that place again.

If a company/ad/recruiter uses the word "guarantee", as in "Guaranteed Home Time", they're full of Bovine Excrement!

Fair enough. I figured from the get-go that anything specifically promised just in the ad for the job is straight up bait.

I don't expect anything when I will apply and walk into these places, but I don't want to get stuck with a place that's all promises and wishes.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with this... "Put your wishes in one hand and your shyte in the other. See which one fills up first."
