    Hey TruckersReport,

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-drivers/200970-week-1-community-college.html

I have survived through my 2nd of 7 weeks of community college. I enjoyed this week a little more because it wasnt as hectic, and it was a little more laid back. We also started learning about some more interesting stuff than just the basics. This week we covered handling cargo, trip planning, vehicle inspections, and we were on the range doing pre-trips. We would have been on the range more, but the weather prevented us from doing so. Once we start driving though, we won't let the weather stop our training. We just have not got that far along yet. I am excited about next week because it will be mostly on the range and maneuvers. I am ready to get out of that classroom and get some hands on experience. It is the only way for me to learn and retain all this information. I have to see it and do it for myself. I will update you again next weekend. If anybody has any questions or comments please feel free to send them my way. Goodluck to all the other newbies out there in this process with me!

I just finished my second week at a cc here in Mississippi. Ours is a 4-week course, all day every day, M-F. First week was basically all classroom, which is in the tractor garage right next to the 3 tractors, so we did get to work on pre-trip for the cabs at the end of a couple days. This past week was all out on the range, working on shifting & all the backing manuevers. I'd apologize to the 4 or 5 orange cones I knocked over, but considering one of their relatives once got kicked out into a lane my brother was in on his triatholon bike during a race & sent him tumbling resulting in a broken femur, I'll just dedicate them to him. ;)

We hit the road the next two weeks, & I'm really looking forward to it. Here we have only 3 folks per class, with one instructor. The other instructor starts a new class of 3 on Tuesday. I've liked the numbers, b/c if...."if" --- who am I kidding? --- WHEN we have questions or are having difficulty getting something right, the instructor's right there. It's been great. Here are some of our....uh...."School Supplies".

???? "We would have been on the range more, but the weather prevented us from doing so" ...

What? Does that mean I can postpone my trip cause of bad weather? Ideally, the school (like NETTTS did when I went through) shouldn't alter anything based on things you encounter in real life such as bad weather. We did our pre and post trip inspections as if the 'load' was to be delivered on time.

Get wet and find out what the trucking industry REALLY involves.

    Just sayin'

6 more weeks until I start my class (March 4th). Getting excited. Going out this week to get supplies for class that I may need. Want to be prepared. Pre-screening in 4 weeks. :)

I got two days off when I was in Community Trucking College. Two winters ago when Chicago got 24 inches of snow in about 24 hours.

Why would I stand out in the inclement weather just to do a general overview of the truck? The only thing we would have done out there this week was a basic introduction to the truck. We will have more than enough time to get everything done. It is only another student and I in a class that last 7 weeks. We will have more than enough experience and driving time at graduation. I know what the trucking industry really involves. I have done my research...just sayin. Thank you!
