Week one is in the books! As govt. mandated trainings go, this will work. I am not sure exactly what I expected but it is not Harvard. The instructors have a wide range of experiences to share with us. The Hotel is HMMM I guess warm and dry. Not the Hilton. Most instructors are nice. The equipment has definately been retired from the fleet for good reason.
All in all it will provide the goal. As for Swift, I believe it will be a good company to drive for.

Just curious, you have 3 years of experience listed, why are you at Swift School ??
Or is your experience like mine where most of it is local/regional ?? -
Total I had my cdl for 24 years and 10 months. I was an O/O in the 80's But when my son was born I got out to raise 4 kids. Just getting back in the seat but prior experience does not count, the law says I need to attend a drivers course.

Must be a new law.........
Southpaw7391 and American-Trucker Thank this. -
The law states no such thing.it's a industry thing to get drivers money, and cheap labor.

Good luck with your schooling!

The OP would not be able to get his foot back in the door unless he went thru schooling again. And went thru the whole starting process. That's just the trucking industry of today.
However in the OP situation he will have a much higher learning curve and catch on much faster than us true trucking noobs. Just imo I believe truck driving is like riding a bike.. I assume.
Old timer I mean Round2 can you chip in on this pls. Is Class A truck driving like riding a bike or something like, you able to catch on, like ahh I remember all this??Last edited: Mar 11, 2012

Its sort of like riding a bike..
Being out of and away from a truck for 6 years a buddy of mine let me cruise around a bit in his the other day..OH MY GOD AM I RUSTY!!!!
I could still back..but man my shift timing is GONE..he truck has a PACCAR engine which I dunno..I was driving with a Cat in my last truck..but I am in definite need of the refresher I am lookin for..yep..hes o/o at the moment and yep..there is a for sale sign on the truck...all it is is I am tryin t shift a bit fast and then overcompensating and having to bump the engine back up to complete the shift..It will come back to me.
Then there are Fed regs for the industry..I'm sure there are changes..and I need to get up to date on those..
IMHO if a former driver trying to get back into the business wanting to take a refresher whether its required or not should be applauded..by all of us..between his prior experience and the refresher he will be up to date and back in the groove

Like riding a bike... but trucks don't fall over as easy! and yes, in Washington you have to start over. Funny, all the guys laughed at me when I jumped in the truck for the first time, I jumped out and ran around to adjust the right mirror. Who new they made power mirrors now! They all think I must have one foot in the grave
