Can anybody reccomend a good company that can get me home on weekends? I can work an ocasional weekend but I just don't want to be home with my wife/kids.

I also play in a band that practices every friday night so I'd like to be home of that most of the time. We almost never play out so that really isn't an issue.

I have 10 years driving. Mostly local. Flatbed, drop deck, van and reefer. Clean record.

I live a little north of Detroit.

    Thanks

Probably need to stay local. You might find a line haul job that would accommodate you, but I wouldn't bet on it.

think real hard about the company you are looking at. with ten years exp you should be able to find something local. the money might be another issue to consider.

That's the problem. I can go anywhere local. But the money just isn't great local anymore. Some places are offering as low as $12 an hour. I'm making alot more than that but I can barely get 40 hours. Plus my plan is to be an o/o some day so the otr experience will help me in the future.

So, are you saying that there are no otr companies that give weekends off? I've seen a bunch. I've seen a bunch of drivers right here on these forums that say they get home every weekend. That's the reason I came here and asked my question. So maybe somebody could tell me a good company that will not just blow smoke up my ### to get me to sign on.

Can't speak for any one else on here, but I am saying that if you work for an OTR company, getting weekends off is just a matter of luck. You may, once in a while. But if you are OTR it will be subject to change. And when you are talking weekends off, what EXACTLY are you talking about.

There is a heck of a difference between "getting home every weekend," and "getting weekends off." Now to me, (at least,) "weekends off," means that you get off on Friday and don't go back until Monday. And this is very problematical with any OTR company. Most of these companies that say they will get you "home on the weekend" actually mean that they will "try", (but not very hard,) to get you home for a portion of time sometime between midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. If you are lucky, you might get a 34 hour reset sometime in that time period, or right before, or right after it.

No point in getting argumentative about it, joe. It is what it is.

Well, staying local dosen't seem like an option. And as far as weekends off, I'm not picky. I just would like to have most friday nights at home. Do my reset and head back out. It don't even mind leaving on sunday. There are l lot of carriers that promise this. I just am wondering which ones are lying. It might be different here in detroit than the rest of the country because we have so much dedicated auto freight.

    Big Don Thanks this.
