Blowing by when PrePass gave you a red will instantly get flagged in the PrePass system and inside the scale house once you also cross under the overhead sensor over the interstate in front of the scale house. However this happens regularly when drivers bypass because of dangerous ramp backup.
(They sometimes tell drivers to bypass when ramp is full)

I'm not sure what happens when the scale sign says a"Closed" but they forgot to turn off the PrePass system and it's issuing red lights but you bypass the closed scale.

Happened to me a few times passing through Chowchilla. Sign said closed, prepass lit up red and I kept going. Nothing ever happened. Saved the videos on my dash cam just in case they tried to pull any funny business

As a new driver, you have to show these DOT officers you aren’t intimidated by them. If the Prepass doesn’t go off, and the sign says open, you pull up on the scales and set your brakes. Walk inside and say any of the following to the officers:

    1. I bet none of you have the guts to give me a Level 1 inspection.
    2. Did you think this was a Krispy Kreme truck so you pulled me in?
    3. $5 to the officer who can tell if I moved this truck while logged out.
    4. Could ya’ll not make it as real cops and became DOT instead?

Report back to us how it goes.

One of the most important parts of the job is the ability to read road signs. Just remember, OPEN sign trumps all, PREPASS trumps the electronic sign. If the sthey gun says closed and Prepass blinks red, keep going. Sign says open and Prepass blinks red but the electronic sign says to bypass, you go in. Prepass blinks green yet the electronic sign says to enter the scale, you follow the Prepass and bypass the scale.

    It makes drivers nervous.

You will notice that MANY drivers are so terrified of entering the scales that they will ignore the MAINTAIN 45 MPH and the STAY 100 FT APART signs. They will cram into the scale and drop to 15 mph. If the truck in front of you starts creeping, maintain the space between you. If you are in the bypass lane and they redlight you, STOP. They will either com out and talk to you or yellow light you to the back. Bring in your truck and trailer registration, insurance and your BOL/manifest.

I have to disagree with some you guys. Prepass is an algorithm choosing randomly while scale master is flesh and blood telling you "now". I will always follow scale instructions over prepass. Flesh and blood can write you up, just saying.

    Say what?

Prepass is only for go in to the scale or do not go in. Once you're on their ramp it will sort you bypass or to scale via overhead arrows. Or some states don't have that and everyone goes over the plate.

If you're talking about scale instructions regarding weigh in motion out on the road you still do whatever prepass says. I have seen Nebraska keep it open and weigh in motion permanently on Truck ok to Bypass and then prepass gives out red lights to some so they are going in. If you bypass it they may chase you down.

Or were you referring to some other situation?

OK... How does that work? No, seriously? Do you just ignore prepass?
    1. no prepass or red - scale open = go in.
    2. no prepass or red - scale closed = bypass
    3. green prepass - scale open = bypass
    4. green prepass - scale closed = bypass

Are you saying you go in always when the scale is open? Or am I missing something?
