its more the driver than the weight of the load. The entire bulk industry runs at 80,000 loaded on a scale. Has a better safty record than light weight freight trucks.

12500 + ---You are probably over on the weight rating of your front axle and steer tires. Not 100% (but 95%) sure you could have heaver tires and axle listed on your door jamb. Either way, even if you did, that heavy front axle triggered interest by the weight cops like it always does. Their computer most likely flagged your truck for more scrutiny given the high axle/tire weight.

Almost always on heavier loads now days you have to single double single, (like Spyder suggested first.) Trucks have gotten heaver in the past years, especially so with emission equipment. Then all these newer trucks set back the front axle for turning radius.

People, schools, mentors, and dispatch, don't train this stuff any more. A driver has to be diligent about all loading even if you don't get paid for it. The idiot on the forklift doesn't give a squirt and doesn't get tickets so they always screw up. Don't take lip or excuses, nor be rude, but your load should 'look' right and hassle free to weight cops to keep out of trouble like this.

Your most likely over your tire and axle weight already, moving it forward will only make thing worse and more suspicious to a weight cop. You aught to try to set up your weights, (load, fifth wheel, trailer tandems) so they don't trigger any interest by the po' po.

I would move my fifth wheel back, and leave it back for all but the heaviest of loads. Learn how to get the dock workers to load your trailer right.

Before you weigh your always best fueling up first at least 2/3 to full then weight your truck to see if your under max weight and also steer, drive and trailer weights then adjust accordingly.

It's kinda funny. This thread has become full of minutia. I'm just looking at the pure numbers and weights. I think the ticket or tickets are pure BS. Lol. Air bags, loading styles, just pay the fifty bucks and roll I guess. The officers where #####. Not even sure I believe any of this.
Under gross, two CAT scale tickets and he still receives tickets from state dot. You can break this down how you wish. I see two piddly tickets, and two A #### cops with nothing better to do.

Entirely possible from setting brakes at one scale and not at the other with how far some trailers drop and put pressure between the tractor and trailer.

It's such a small difference but it's possible. I prefer not to be scared of the boogie man.
I myself would roll with that load and leave the the rest of you to pontificate why I am wrong.

Minutia is good. Some of us thrive on details. For others, the devil dances on it.

I would agree it's a 50 dollar ticket more or less. It's not like what I have done in the past breaking state scales. (A very bad day it was...)
