If that truck has the Eaton axle housings, inspect them real close at all the welds at the spring perches too. They crack all the time. If you notice more grease/ oil filled dirt forming on that end then the other it could indicate a crack. The gear oil will slowly wick out of the crack.

Some time back I looked at a truck on a lot for sale that had similar wear. The owner said that truck ran a lot of crowned roads, and poorly maintain roads. It would wear every set of tires like that. But that wear was on all 4 inners for the most part.

What is your power divider axle temp running compared the rear most axle? I ask because differential issue might cause odd tire wear.

The other thing is your ride height. Since you mention running light is more noticeable, your position valve might be malfunctioning. If your bags extend and your height goes up when empty vs. loaded, your axle cross bar, panhard bar, track bar etc. is pulling the axle to one side and may cause components to not function properly.

about a year ago I had that diff rebuilt and the power divider rebuilt.By a drivetrain shop not your everyday mechanic. I was just under the truck but I’ll double check.
    Thank you

i check the temps off both axles and powder divider and they tend to stay in the 200’s. Was told that is good. A year ago I had the diff and power divider rebuilt.

I did also change the level valve a year ago too and followed the instructions. Couldn’t find much on the internet on how to install it.

but yes when lite or empty the wear is more noticeable then when weight is on the truck.

When turning, I think the inside edge will always wear more, because it's being "dragged" around the corner. I really don't see anything wrong, tires ALWAYS wear out too soon,:cwm21::crybaby:

The excuse I have been given from our tire department was that the rear axle flexes under load and causing inner tire wear. They came to this conclusion with the help from Bridgestone and a test truck set up with infrared cameras.
The kick in the pants is they believe an axle upgrade that is not that costly could fix the issue but the company refuses mainly due to the extra weight put onto the tractor for the upgrade.
These trucks are open bore tankers we are loaded 78,000 to 82,000 lbs on every load.
And you have to take into consideration our load is moving all the time so any given axle weights will dramatically increase and decrease depending upon the situation we are driving.

I was gonna say that looks like my old drives, where the inner drives take the abuse....

I'm a tanker guy and I run the hills in WV, a lot, and I'm lucky to get 150K out of premium tires before that pattern shows up.

IF they are non directional you can pay a shop to X-rotate them and get another 100K out of them, but, they'll just wear down faster.

It's just physics, and how the surge wears down tires.

Best advice is slow down on ramps, and mountain curves. Don't run it at 70 into a curve. Cause a new set of premium drive tires runs about $8000 these days.
