Our truck had to have that to pass inspection with a trailer on it.

No plate on the rear, city cop pulls you over... next time it happens, call the state police and have them come out to give the local yokel a short education. My favorite time is when a rookie pulled me and 5 other rigs over at once. we were hauling 12' wide wall panels for the Mitsubishi plant in Bloomington, IL. the lanes were barely 10', so best safe way is to centerline. Cop wouldn't take no for an answer. I then told him if you want us in one lane or the other, you will have to sign off so we can take out a line of telephone poles or take the tops off a few cars. Still no, and getting hot, too. I told him point blank, I have Lt. xxx of the IL ## district on my speed dial. (brick of a phone back then, you needed a holster the size of a briefcase) I also told him it was the private office nuber, no secretary between me and him. "If I call him and he sends out a TROOPER, one of us will be leaving here in cuffs and it won't be me." about that time, his supervisor comes screeching to a halt right there and demands to know what the heck! Before the rookie can speak, I say, " Prettyboy says we can't centerline these loads." The supervisor looked at me and said to get the H*** out of there. (traffic was backing up because even pulled over, we couldn't clear the inside lane enough. {make own presumtion of rookies intelligence level privately, please}) The rookie? "Park your squad around the corner and then get into my car, NOW. Woooooo. We never got molested by a cop ever again.... Sometimes you just need to know who to call, but this episode was one of sheer fortune.

Scalemaster, If you see my truck ever, go ahead and give me a redlight. I have a coffemaker on the truck, and I make some #### good mud! you can see pix on pp 11 of the "lets see your first truck" thread. Not much has changed, except the unit number, now that I own it. Same icon on the side as my avatar.

I too had an interesting run in with a rookie small town cop. When I say rookie, I mean this kid looked like he had never had a single facial hair grow yet... Probably took a 1 year certificate program at a small community college in Law Enforcement and was hired in the small town for 10 buck an hour.

I used to run the same route on a given day every other day a few years back and this kid pulled me over... He asked to see my log, I looked at him funny, humored him and handed him my log... He clearly had no clue what he was looking at, and was running his fingers along by driving line. He then handed it back and said have a nice day. A total waste of my time. Well couple days later, he pulls me over again, almost the same spot. Asks to see my log again... I say nope, he asks why... I say, your not qualified to look at it... and ask that he calls a Trooper there if he must, but he's not gonna see it. The rookie city cops glares at me for a bit and the says have a nice day... so I leave. LOL! Few weeks later, I see his car up to the doors stuck in the mud in the median ditch(I suspect he was gonna turn around for a speeder after a heavy rain). He obviously tried to get out himself and mud from the tires almost completely covered the rear part of his car... Felt a little sorry for him at that point.

I was reading the forum and saw a post that caught my eye.

2 years ago on I-8, just west of Casa Grande, Az., I was pulled over by a Pima County Sheriff's commercial officer. I was written a warning ticket, because at 75 mph (posted speed limit on I-8, my mudflaps on a set of doubles WERE NOT "PARALLEL WITH THE GROUND"... I'm normally very nice to the police, but this was like, "your kidding me right" ? That and a piece of the DOT tape looked "worn"...Both warnings, but it must have been a very slow day on I-8.

Seems like mud flaps would work a lot better if they were perpendicular to the ground.

They would, but have you ever seen them strong enough to buck the wind and stay straight up?

In 2002, I got a written warning for having the old style reflective tape on the trailer. Two different Dot officers checked out my logbook and could not find anything wrong. When I got to the nearest company maintenance facility, I showed the written warning that I received to the maintenance supervisor. He said,"You ARE kidding me, right?". Ahhh...Nope. The guy who re-taped the trailer was one seriously angry dude. Oh well.

was pulling an oversize a few months ago pulled in to the first lousianna scale and parked out back brought my paperwork in and was very polite with handed her my permit she barely looks at it and says "ooo ur getting a ticket" my jaw dropped as i never gotten a ticket for anything so i ask "why is that" she says "permit number is hard to read" dumbfounded i ask to see the permit and i proceed to read the typed printed number that was clear as day off to her and she says"doesnt matter if i have to type ur license plate in to the computer it's an automatic ticket". so she hands me the ticket it says "faliure to obey terms and conditions of permit" i just shook my head and left luckily she didnt tear my permit up. i get to the next scale in LA and show him the permit and tell him about the ordeal at the last one the cop just shook his head laughed then said and i quote "wow, she's a ##### i can read that bumber no problem"

moral of the story dont get the black lady in the LA scale she sucks
