Haven't been on here in a long time. I had two previous trucking jobs, Upper Midwest Sleep and Hawkes company. Neither worked out. The job at Upper Midwest Sleep required me to drive to downtown Minneapolis to unload mattresses at different locations. Definently wasn't ready for that work at the time. Then while I was employed at Hawkes, made to many mistakes. Got stuck, knocked over a tree which no one really cared about so thats good, lost my bill of ladings, put the wrong fuel in the fuel tank, tank froze on me cause it wasen't full enough. Through all my mistakes though I've learned alot and am not going to give up.

Working for Altendorf trucking now. Real good company. I'm happy with them and love my job, beats any other job I've had in the past and pays alot better. Have a stick in my truck, when I worked for Hawkes it was an automatic which I don't like driving. Shifting good now, I mean it dosen't always go in whisper quiet, makes clicking noise sometimes but thats not like grinding gears is it? The thing that I need to work on most now is my backing, would like to get it docked everytime without having to pull forward again, and my clutch control, which I suck at. It's embarassing when your at a stop light in rush hour traffic and you take your foot off the clutch and it shakes a little or dosen't take off real fast or smoothly, also when I'm backing the truck shakes like crazy sometimes when I let off the clutch. Any tips you may have on clutch throttle control or advice might help me out.

Also I'm wondering if it's okay to nintey a truck into the dock when your loaded and when your backing up to a dock when your loaded is it normal to hear your truck kinda groan or creek well your backing? Just don't wanna break anything, drive local in the city and it's harder on the truck then over the road.

your backing skills will improve the more you do it, sounds like your using to high of gear from a dead stop . backing you may be rideing the clutch creaking should be nothing to worry about the 90% is fine.seen that company you work for advertizing for drivers latley on mpls craigs list, hope this might help you out!

Oh ik they will. Not being a smart$$$ just saying. When I start out from a dead stop I'm always in first gear. I do hold down the clutch when I'm backing and slowly let off it without stepping on the throttle. Is that bad? If I let off it to fast the truck kinda jumps on me, if I let off it real slowly it still shakes a little sometimes. That's a relief with the creaking, maybe it does that just cause it's been used alot in the city n the parts aren't real lubricated, idk. Hmmm, advertising a little ways from home base there. This did help me out some.

Are your trailers spring ride? I know the handful of spring rides we have make some nasty sounds backing or pulling out of a driveway that has a decline to the road.

Trucks pretty much creak all the time. There are several thousand parts in them, and not all have grease between them. You just don't usually hear it over road noise, the radio, and other traffic. And practice will solve most of your other issues pretty quick.
