One good thing about MI. When I was looking for a house it was very obvious which houses are in an HOA. Not only was the realtor pointing it out, there are disclosure laws that have to be signed during closing. Explaing the bylaws and prices and such.
Highway Sailor Thanks this. -
Highway Sailor, spyder7723, gentleroger and 3 others Thank this.

If the realtor doesn't make note of it.
Not all hoa's have a fenced or gated entrance.
I think it would have be itemized in the sales contract. -
I live in a hoa. I like it , it keeps the jackwads in check.
Not all are good though, often times you get folks on these power trips just because they're on the board.
They used to run a segment on the local news about the bad ones every night.
I think after about six months of it a lot of the problems slowed quite a bit.
Board members didn't want to be the next one to have their face plastered all over the evening news for their ridiculous and petty behavior, lol.Chinatown, TROOPER to TRUCKER, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Hoa should be outlawed.
In the 90's I owed a house next to a group of homes that was run by an hoa and those b*** tards gave me nothing but grief and hassles. They built the houses right on the property line and claimed part of my property as their own and was subject to their rules. They had no leg to stand on because the property I bought ten years before the deed changes was surveyed when I purchased it by the same company that surveyed theirs for the deed changes and the company said there was no line where the hoa board claimed, it was where the houses stood which made them illegally placed by the county regulations.
For five years this crap went on and it came to a close when they tried to sue me to get the property. They lost before the case ever was asssigned and knew it. I still own the house and property and lease it to a guy who runs a repair shop out of it.Dan.S, Toomanybikes and TripleSix Thank this. -
I always wanted to have a repair shop come in and open next door to me after I'd lived there under hoa rules for years
This is a prime example of why hoa's exist.Chinatown and spyder7723 Thank this. -
