next is fingerprints and background. I plan on driving for swift.I already have a Class A CDL with tanker and doubles/triples so i will have an X endorsement now. What should i Expect with the fingerprints and background? I passed the test but here comes the money part.Swift doesnt require you to have a hazmat endorsement but after talking to a recruiter you will get hired faster with a hazmat endorsement.

any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not tryin to be disrespectful, but....howinda heck didja manage to take your hazmat test before you got fingerprinted and had a background check?

Is this a case of Tx playin by it's own rules again? :biggrin_25525:

My husband had to pass the written part before getting the paperwork to take to the state police barracks to be able to be fingerprinted/checked. Why be charged for and pay for the fingerprinting/background test if you may not be able to pass the written test for whatever reason?

Some states let you test 1st then get the fed letter. Others want the letter 1st.

Having the HM will make it easier to get a job at any company. They like it now if you have a TWIC as well.

Don't ever believe a recruiter. They are not there for you. Some companies may look at your endorsements as an indicator for ambition but I wouldn't bank on it.

Do you have to have a certain amount of experience to get the hazmat endorsement or can you test for it at any time?

    Hello Dan,

To obtain Hazmat Endorsement for a CDL "A", the driver would have to take a written test about regulations and requirements.

In addition there is a fee. In SC the fee is $150.00.

The fee for the test and all in Virginia is $85.00 so far. I look at it like this: If you dont need it, dont get it, it only costs you more at renewal. to me it would be a waste of money if you dont need it, so get when you have to.

In Kansas I had to wait for my background check results and then was notified I was eligible to test....I believe with the exam and fingerprinting I had just a bit over $100 invested. That was 4 years ago and the order may have changed.
