US Xpress, Knight, Schneider, Swift, CR England, JB Hunt, Werner, Prime....just to name a few. Put your time in and research the next company to see where you want to go.

If you are able to put in three years and keep a clean record, you will pretty much be able to write your own ticket. You'll be 24 then. Not bad for a guy in his early 20's.

Why on Earth you want to go to May is beyond me. 61mph trucks and electronic logs. And that 61mph applies to O/O as well as Company drivers.

If you're under the minimum wage requirement, I'd get a local job for a year, it'll give you a reference, some pay for several months, and some skill behind the wheel locally even with smaller vans.

W & S is very hard to get into as a recent grad and especially if you're young – they'll want to "re-train you" their way (not a bad thing from what I've read, W & S are hard-core and only want the best of the best)

Swift, Werner or the dreaded *CR England as *THE last resort! Depends on your goal(s) but bottom-line, you need to start somewhere and stay put for at least 1 year, 2 years is better and that will get you into a Walmart, Fedex or UPS (dedicated account) which is local and/or regional (Union-based too, don't knock it - those UPS guys make great money after 5 years and have amazing benefits)

I'd go with Swift, I've heard that their flat-bed training is top-notch (if you ever consider flatbed, very tough but the pay-scale is better)

BTW, I 'm NOT a "Swifty" nor a recruiter (Never, EVER believe ANYTHING a recruiter tells you, its all about signing you on) I drive locally in Central NJ.

    Good Luck!!!

right on, thank's everyone i'm looking into Prime right after i post this, i was told about them by a guy i went to school with.

@Remrie: no need to wait and get a local gig, i turn 21 tomorrow 8)

@ZeeSchnogun: thanks for that bit of advice, my horizon is wide open really, but yes i wouldn't mind flatbed, that's what my father did. "heavy haul" flatbed. mainly rebar, I-Beam and other steel. truckin's in my blood and i'll be darned if i'm not gonna heed it's calling.

Again, thanks for all your help everyone, you're all somethin else, feels like one big family, which i'm sure it is, can't wait to get out there and hopefully meet some of you. very nice to see everyone jumping to help out the young greenhorn. means a lot.

Alrighty, off to continue my search and wait for some calls. Take care everyone!

Well thanks again everyone, May is looking pretty good now, just waiting on confirmation of work history from one more of my previous employers and i should be at orientation in Phoenix on the 20th. i had an offer with Schneider but i'd rather go with May, more pay, better trucks, and i know a few of you May drivers already. we'll see where this goes! take care everyone, see you out there!
