TLDR version, changed out $3000 worth of injectors, didn't fix it. Still stuck in Dallas, TX. Didn't clear codes.
Long version....
Yep, started breaking down last weekend. Picked up a load in Charlotte, NC going to Dallas TX.
2020 Cascadia at 543K miles running heavy with a tanker, started throwing codes SPNI 4258, FMI 4, injector ground short to body on injectors 4,5,6. Started throwing codes last Saturday around Talladega, AL. Limped the truck to Birminghma, AL.
I diagnosed them myself with DiagnosticLink and made the call to sit at the Pilot in Birmingham AL on Sunday, wait on the parts dept Peachtree Freightliner to open Monday AM. Sunday afternoon took the top of the motor off down to the valve train.
Monday Am at 0700, Walked a mile with a backpack and bought the parts from Peachtree Freightliner I bought all the parts to change out injectors 4,5,6, rear injector wiring harness, plus the fuel lines, fuel line gaskets. 3 trips with Uber to get the spec tools (pry bar set, 12 pt 13mm socket for hold down bolt) later, got the new injectors changed out in the Pilot parking lot. Walked back and got to it. Everything put back together 1500 Monday.
Changed everything out, reprimed the truck, added the new reman injector codes in Diagnostiklink software, rewrote the MCM for the new injector codes, drove up to the dealer and gave them back my cores for the 375$ each credit, and proceeded to Dallas TX. 690 miles.
Set the cruise at 68 and sometimes had to step it up a little every now and then. Got to Dallas and delivered that load. Truck ran like a scalded dog, thought I had it fixed.
As soon as I got back on the Interstate, bam, threw the codes again. That means the harness is shorting outside the motor, or it's a computer (MCM) issue. I cleared the code once again so I wouldn't be de rated and could get down the road.
I got to the tank wash and shut the truck down, then confirmed my wiring harness had continuity from injectors pins to MCM, then called Freightliner Dallas South and put the truck in there to get the MCM changed out. ON a Friday morning, and that was something. That's not gonna happen. On a Friday. AT Dallas Premier Truck Group South. We ain't gonna get a competent tech on it till Monday.
So I'm sitting here in a hotel in Dallas, Freightliner Dallas is twiddling their thumbs because the code ain't active. Of course they run a skeleton service crew on Sat and Sundays.
When I uber to the dealer Monday morning I'm gonna tell them to hell with diagnosing. Just change the MCM, I've already diagnosed it. And I'm losing 1100$ worth of revenue a day. Change the part, let me out of here.
That way maybe I can get out of this hotel at $110 a night.
Welp, I broke down and gave it my best shot last week.. O/OP rant

WOW! I really sympathize about your situation, on a 5 year old truck is simply unacceptable. I don't know HOW you guys do it today. Years ago, we put the pump on "manual" and away we went. Seems this "throwing codes" is the new menace and I understand it's not 1978 anymore, but really, I could see if you were making a million dollars doing this, but all these trucks do today is pad a bunch of pockets, except yours, and I couldn't be part of that. I still say, with all the computer controls, it's plenty easy to wire in something to cause havoc right about 500K. Like the cars, they need to sell new ones, not fix the old ones. It's a total scam. Good luck, if luck even counts anymore.

What you gonna do when the MCM does not fix the problem? Far more likely that the harness from the MCM is the issue, especially with this code. But you don't want to listen. Your time and money.KDHCryo Thanks this.

Thanks..
I knew coming into O/OP side of things my old 550K mile Cascadia is going to cost downtime....
And again, this post is just a RANT, so I can just blow off steam.
When I look back at what this is really gonna cost me, every week is about $7K gross, so sitting for even a weekend is painful.
I'm thankful I have everything paid for for the next month.gentleroger, W923, Albertaflatbed and 1 other person Thank this. -

Why don’t you change the mcm yourself? I mean you changed injectors in the parking lot so you clearly have some mechanical aptitude
OldeSkool, W923, Rookie driver 956 and 3 others Thank this. -
And I agree it’s more likely the harness, but that doesn’t mean it is the harness
