Do you have decent work for it? If so, run your worst case numbers and see if it will work for you and make you more money than being a company driver. If the worst case numbers don't equal 50% more money, it might not be a great idea.

In that case, find the work, then worry about finding a truck. That is the way to be successful in this business, especially with you wanting to run in a specialized field.

Where I live competition for loads is fierce in that market. I'd be very certain you can make enough before doing it. Just buying the truck not so bad cause you can take it anywhere but the trailer is the gamble in my opinion.

$1300 and you live at home?? My costs are $700 month after you factor in getting most of my food over the road, and I live on my own and own my house.

Sure there isn't some fat you can cut out from that?

Have thought about signing on with Beelman as a company driver? Give them a year to get your feet wet ( if you have no end dump exp) I run out of there Indy Terminal my only real complaint is the trucks are governed at 64 mph But there paying for fuel so it is what it is. Elogs are a pain and have cut about 100 bucks week out of my check. I run Monday thru Friday with getting by the house 1 night during the week avg net bring home 750 a week. They give you pick up a point A deliver to point B how you get there is up to you, fuel can be dicey sometimes as they only use certain pilots/flying J. From talking with some of are O/O's and confirming numbers with terminal manager there grossing 250k+ and that's running Monday thru Friday.

No one can see the bigger picture here ?
He's already made up his mind and what his home expenses has nothing to do with if he can make it as an O/O.
I mean come on, the kid is 23 and has no fear or clue... cause if he had, he wouldn't be here asking a bunch of strangers to validate his decision.
23 yrs old, 4 yrs of local experience and finds he needs to buy a Peterbilt before its too late... and he decided all this by going to MATS.

Am I the only one that see's this ?

Junior ( and I mean this with all due respect) get some real experience "BEFORE" buying a truck, cause when your ready, you won't feel the need to ask others whether you should own and operate a "BUSINESS". Trust me when I say you will have plenty of time to go broke...
