Hey if you want to believe the bull #### more power to you. There's a lot of "bad news" about AI killing jobs out there getting hyped up constantly. Some of them for sure will be and already have been. Trucking ain't one of them. We'll never live to see it. There's plenty of info out there out there about how AI hype is a bunch of BS mostly but it doesn't get clicks. You've been spooned info that it's taking over trucking and believe it. Think about how ridiculous that is the next time you're in a jam somewhere surrounded by a thousand cars trying to safely make a turn or whatever. Impatient people zooming around or whatever. You can deal with that. What about when they screw up and run into you though? You can deal with that too, right? What's an AI truck going to do? Shut down in the middle of a busy intersection. I dunno what happens? There's so many scenarios we can't even think of. Humans won't build a machine that can deal with it. Menial tasks like stacking boxes on a pallet or picking cotton, no problem. Complex tasks???

That’s like my line of work.

They may be able to replace the linehaul drivers, but not the city drivers.

More to the point, if AI continues to take jobs from the masses, who is gonna have a job to pay for all the #### that needs to get bought to keep the economy running?

The rich can only buy so much.

Oh no, it will be blood in the streets that will make the Reign of Terror look like a Greenpeace rally.

The difference with the Industrial Revolution is there was still space to "expand" (colonization). Even so it took mass violence to address the economic upheaval (Peterloo, the 1848 Revolutions, the many and sundry labor riots). It took serious threats of mass uprising for universal suffrage to be passed in the wake of WWI.

UBI would work, if there were the will to create it. Every time it has been tried, the results were promising. But almost every time its been tried, the pilot program gets shut down early due to political pressure. Currently we are seeing the dismantling of "the welfare state" on a global scale. It would be nice to think that we can make the transition in a peaceful, kumbyyah way. I just don't think its going to happen.

You're right, there are a lot.of jobs that cant be (or shouldn't be) automated. But what happens when 2/3s of the population is living at a poverty level UBI?

You're right that this isn't going to happen tomorrow, but the trend line is pretty clear.

I don't see all linehaul drivers being replaced, either. 500+miles a night with doubles/triples in the Rocky Mountains comes to mind.

And the AI terminator robots lived happily ever after on planet earth after vanquishing the pesky humans that created them? What purpose does their existence serve beyond that? They really don’t have one outside of their relationship with their creators. Somehow I don’t see it playing out like that, but if it does then I guess that is our legacy.

Hell no I want a front row seat to whatever ####-show is coming our way. (Long as I’m not too dead or personally inconvenienced by it of course).

Look, I was in your camp and still I started using this stuff and looking into it and reading all the articles and things that come out. The intelligence part is already there once they apply it to the mechanical part. You’ll have a robot with more capabilities than you were I could ever dream of having in our physical bodies. 5000 times more knowledgeable, quicker, smarter, stronger, able to repair itself reason analyze and fix anything. He can already do that in the intelligence world on a computer. They’ll be plugging that into very capable robot soon enough. You won’t even need self driving trucks. The robots will be able to drive them all by themselves.
