Based on the way things are going in this industry I do think more freight will be placed on the rails and more regional type jobs will be offered for solo operators.
I think the time of the solo operator traveling cross country is going to become a thing of the past. It is more profitable to operate 1 truck with 2 drivers in it than 1 truck and 1 driver.
The government will continue pushing for EOBR's on all trucks and so the carriers will have no choice but to either relay high priority freight cross country or place more teams in their trucks.
There are some good companies out there you just have to do your home work. You also have to have a good attitude and be willing to be flexible to become one of the top dogs out here.
Some others have tried to follow in my footsteps already but found they could not adapt to this life style (my younger brother for example) and gave it up. To each his/her own I guess.
To Texas Mike,
My profile shows who I work for. I have discussed my carrier in the favorite trucking company section and defended it in the bad company section.
I was not attempting to "recruit" anyone. I was offering my perspective and illustrating how a newbie could in fact achieve those 40 and 50 grand a year jobs right out of the chute. Good luck!
Were do they get their numbers from?
