Hello all, Id like to thank you in advance for your help and input. that said,I will be graduating from RoadMAster in Tampa in two weeks. They are currently working with 4 companies to hire their students. What I am curious about is your opinions about each and why. I am 42 with a wonderful wife and 16 year old daughter. I am brand new to trucking, and have learned there’s a lot more to this than I though and I have a lot learn. After 20+ years of hating retail I have decided to get out and not go back. I’d also appreciate your thought on anything to do, not do and avoid.

Per the title of this thread, my other suggestion would be E) None of the above.

Since you live in Tampa, you might not have much of another choice. I'd try any local company in your area. If OTR is what you really want, I'm sure you could find a local company in Tampa that does OTR and would hire you as a student.

I agree with scarecrow. Ive been driving local for past 4yrs but remeber what a pain it was startin. If you can find otr in your area be better off. I hired back on with a small co. I pefer the smaller company, they know you by name not number.

Fresh out of school your choices will be very limited. I know this because I am in the same boat and was told by many experienced drivers I know that I would have to put up with 6 mo to a year of crap before i could pick and choose. I even tried the local thing and that was even worse. I kept hearing 3 to 5 years exp with little or no exceptions. Best of luck to you. In the same boat.

We went to Swift. Did our schooling and training with them. It's working out very well for us at this point but I do know some people on this forum that don't like Swift at all.

I have heard alot of bad from Swift on this forum. Don't know myself. Just what I read. Everything I have been able to find is that you will have better luck finding a small company or a local one for new drivers. Or you have to sign your life away for a year or two year contract and take the school through the company. A little frustrating either way!:biggrin_2552:
