So anyone think I should go Dollar account, OTR/Regional or Watkins Shepard (Furniture/Carpet that is touch freight)?

Dollar account you can make some good cash (Dollar tree/family dollar... Dollar General made about 7-10k less a year). I averaged 1200 a week. You definitely have a heightened risk of hitting something, but if your paying attention you can lower that quite a bit. I hit stuff when I was on the account (minor, not taking out buildings and cars) but there is not a thing on my big scary DAC. You will also get really good at backing into some weird places and angles. 20180207_135511.jpg

I hear the Watkins Shepard terminal out here in Vegas does a lot of mattress work but not sure on the pay.

Thanks for the details. Is there a lot to unload? is it mostly just small boxes? How do you keep track on what to unload for that particular store? or do you just unload the entire trailer?

My heavier trailers were around 38-40k pounds with around 3500-4000 cases. That's normally around thanksgiving/Christmas and major holidays. My lighter trailers were 28k with 2500 cases.

Each stop is divided by stickers or plastic. You keep unloading for that store until you hit the boxes with stop sign stickers on it or they put up a wall of plastic wrap across.

Heaviest case you will encounter would be 6 gallon boxes of water or bleach. About 50ish pounds. Everything else is pretty light for the most part. Alot of soda and other liquids at 20ish. I always loaded the really tiny boxes into trays or boxes and sent them down at once.

Once you get your routine down it normally takes about 7 hours for an entire trailer.

I can only speak on what I experienced at Werner on Dollar Tree out of my distribution center.

Compared to OTR divisions I had it waaaaaay better. I had to do manual labor but I made $400 more a week (unless they were running super miles), never waited on a load (I had my next trailer waiting at the DC before I even finished unloading the one I was on), home every weekend, and could get extra days (doctors appointments etc.) without question.

My truck got banged up a little bit but they are well aware it's going to happen. As long as you aren't smashing cars and hitting stupid things it's not going to be that bad. The silliest thing I hit was snow in SLC. Plow went through the lot and left a pile in the only exit. It iced over and caught the bottom of the bumper. Werner threw a new bumper on and I went about my business, no safety meeting, no probation, not even a question.

Cool, thanks for the info. Sounds about what I'd expect. Can you take breaks during that 7 hours? Guess you moved on to greener pastures?

You can definitely take breaks. When its hot as hell it is encouraged. I took a 100ft extension cord and a huge air fan to go into the trailer, lots of water, and when you need a break you roll inside. The dollar tree people are normally required to take a break and lunch at certain hours so you get breaks then too.

I came home and drive local for food delivery to restaurants. Still touch every box but the money is great and I'm home every night.

    Rocknroller4 Thanks this.
