How the #### could anyone sleep while somebody they don't even know is driving something the size of a house around?!

Oh contrar sir. Once you have deemed the student is safe to drive without direct supervision then it becomes a team operation. You must complete the direct observation period and he must be off curfew for that to happen. If you think he is not ready then it's more observation and more training until you deem he is safe. This will take two or more weeks to complete this phase. If after a reasonable period you don't think he is ready then cut him loose by either recommending he go with another trainer or you don't think he could become a safe driver.
I trained skydiving students for 30 years and I never lost a student. I cleared them for free-fall only when I knew they were safe and competent enough to deploy their own parachute and handle emergencies, same principle applies.
I am not going to end up like the trainer and student on Donner Pass that met their maker. Student was driving while trainer was video taping the view and his last words were, "this is beautiful". Truck rolled, cab smashed to about half it's original height, and two dead people. If the trainer minds the store and does what he is supposed to do, that won't happen, and not on my watch. If you check out how many hours the other companies require for training I think you will find that Werner requires more hours for the trainee. If you successfully complete Werner's training and drive safely for two years, you will get a job anywhere you want. -

cheap team truck labor and don't think it's not.pete1 Thanks this. -
Very true but try telling the companies that.Once the trainee feels comfortable the dispatcher gives them team loads and you're talking to a wall if you tell your dispatcher you don't want team loads.A trainer should be in the jump seat AT ALL TIMES and shut her down when the trainee is out of hrs but companies don't.

Complaining about this as if Werner is the only company that does this is just not realistic.
