GreenHornXcableguy,
My wife worked thru a temp service, and developed carpil Tunnel. She was fired and ended up calling a lawyer and has been seeing a DR and has won all of her hearing's. They (her employer) is now trying to settle with her.
My point is just because you were a temp means nothing in the eyes of Workers comp.
You should have seeked the advice of a lawyer. Especially if you were fired because you developed Tendinitus and the employer fired you for that reason. That is against the law..they would be held responsible for that.

All these posts about schools, mills, whatever, brings up my past life as a trucker. I decided to become one, and did. Took my DOT physical, applied at a company as an o/o and hopped in the truck. The company required that a trainer ride with me until I was deemed safe to go on my own. Understand this was 187 years ago and things were very different. Wanted to bring my wife along; company says well, sure, but she has to go to a driving school. Okay.
In those days, schools were few and far between. Wifey ended up in North Carolina at UNC Raleigh. School cost about $165 for six weeks. The school operated four trucks, two conventionals and two cabovers. Three van trailers and one tanker full of sand. Four qualified instructors. First day of class there were 36 students.
The school worked on a point basis. Each time a student screwed up either in class or driving, he earned points. When the points earned equalled or exceeded the magic number, the student won a free trip home. The thing about this system was if a student couldn't cut the mustard, he failed himself. The instructors didn't fail the student, the student's lack of driving skills did.
Graduation rolled around, we're down to 16 smiling faces. Wifey finished number two in the class. We hit the road, lived happily ever after. LOL -
IMHO, there are so many bad trainers out there, anybody who thinks they can handle it, and knows they are a good driver outta give it a shot. chances are ull be a better trainer than 1/2 the other guys.
personally i believe a trainer should have at least 1 yr experience to be a trainer. however, these n00bs are supposed to have the basics down by the time they come out of school (too bad this isnt the case) so a trainer shouldn't really be a trainer, but more of a guide. -
just got a copy of my DAC record. apparently werner says they "discharged" me. now i have to send for a copy of my controlled substance record. if they think they fired me even tho i quit i imagine they probly put the false positive on my record also.

The burden is upon them to prove that what they assert is true and correct, but don't expect DAC to roll over readily on this.
If they charge you with a positive testing result, you really need to get an Attorney involved, and as quickly as possible. If this does make it into court, you're going to win, I have no doubt, if all is as you have presented it in here.
Whatever you do, don't let them get away with it. Your very future depends on refuting their assertions. -

Redneck ,
It was 2 years ago so I lost time wise BUT they DID take care of ALL my medical expenses from it so I`m not too bitter. I just hated being treated like a piece of meat. Wasen`t the first time and I doubt it will be the last time. Thanks for your imput though.
BTW..... ALOT of things are against the law but THAT does`nt seem to stop companies from doing it. -
you always need an attorney,if you take a chance you will get scrdd, the only person you can really trust is you and god,and god knows if a company can save money you will not be taken care of and backed up. thats why we have so many lawyers out there, at least we can fight with teir expedice, most of us are not smart enough to represent ourselves, the big boys go bankrupt and us little folks lose your toys, except you house in some states. i'm just glad the way werner did you that, there wasn't a private injury lawsuit, then they probably would have changed their tune, and needed your help in court, the best of luck to you. find a small fleet owner or owner operator to work for, put a personal ad in your paper,i used to haul contract mail in boston and ny it paid 22.00 an hour, that was 6 or 7 yrs ago. mail contractors are always looking for dependable drivers. good luck''

I agree with all of you on this trainer situation.I have about 8 yrs.driving experience, and have been asked to consider a training job,at different times.I do not have the patience to be a trainer, although I feel I have the skills to do it.To me a trainer has to be a special type of person, one who can take an inexperienced person under their wing and guide them thru a reasonable training period, which should be at least 8 wks.A new driver coming out of school just has the bare basics of driving, and needs to learn a lot more before he or she is turned loose with a truck.I know myself and I know I would not have the patience to do it.I take my hat off to anyone who can be a good trainer. And yes they should have at least a couple yrs.of safe driving under their belt.
