In reference to idling, each state has their own laws. You have to check each state. Like I know Florida's idling law does not go into effect until December 2008 and Georgia's idling law does not go into effect until May 2009. So check each state and whatever state you are in at the time, you must abide by that state's idling law. Now as for the company you work for, I know it has poilicy and you are suppose to follow policy but in this case (I know that is one policy I couldn't abide by) I was told, If when hired you did not sign any papers about it, you are not required to abide by it. You just need to be compliant with state laws. Besides OSHA has taken plenty of complaints from truckers because it is too hot to sleep with out the air conditioning in the bunk of a truck. I know EXACTLY what you are going thru.I drove for Werner for 2 yrs.Then quit and went back because I missed my dispatcher.It was worse when I came back.I spent most my time at the Omaha term or a drop yard then actually taking the load to the customer.Oh they would give me a good load alright only to swap or split it out for the day driver to take it.Most my checks were less then what a student made.You would have to swap the load with another driver and who would be the one sitting and burning up your hrs waiting for the swap,youd be the one sitting for hrs.or if you had to swap they would find the closest place to where youre at so they made sure you didnt get the miles.The dispatcher and load planners job is to make sure the drivers are angry all the time and make sure they dont receive the miles.I know Werners game.I'll never go back there.I would make more money picking up cans or washing dishes.But the you only having 6 months otr exp.I would stay there till you get a year in then you can find a MUCH BETTER COMPANY.I f you quit before then,youre going to find a company not much better then Werner or even worse.If you have a haz mat endorsement or you can go to Canada,tell your dispatcher you want those loads.You won't have to worry so much about that stupid panic button going off for you to swap or split that load.

 

I dont get it,if there no runs,no miles, so why are these werner recuiters always hiring?Werner keeps calling me and I told them im not going to be screw by them.Does any one know how do these recuiters get paid? Im starting to think they get paid by how many drivers they hire a day.How do they get paid??

 

Trucking reminds me of a line from a movie I once saw but I dont quite remember the movie but the line goes: "Everytime I get out they pull me right back in" that is so true with trucking it gets into your blood and no matter how much you love to hate it you just always come back. Thats why these snake oil salesman recruiters still have their jobs because we love being truckers and keep allowing ourselves to get sucked in thats why people even though they read the forum about Werner,CR England, Swift, JB, etc, etc, people still go with them and then realize what people are posting in here is completly true as I learned the hardway with Werner, I will not set foot in a truck again unless I am an owner operator. So thats what I am saving up towards

 

It's just like any other industry. There's good places to work, and there are bad places to work. I have heard all kinds of horror stories about working at a Wal-Mart store, but people need jobs to put food on the table. So there will always be people aplying for jobs there. Maybe they can't get hired elsewhere, maybe they haven't heard the horror stories, maybe they think they can put up with it. I don't know, but companies like those you listed will always be able to find new drivers. Even if there were no recruiters.

 

I got fired from my current driving job, the boss was having me haul hazmat didnt tell any one his permit expired it pissed me off so i turned his no good self in so he fired me

I called werner thinkin i could go back to work for them they said nope they wont hire anyone thats been fired aint that the #### i have perfect driving record i got fired for putin up a fuss over illegal crap and they wont hire me i still think theyre a ok company but what a bunch of dicks

 

Werner hires lots of felons and convicts and people who got fired from previous jobs. Just depends on what u were fired for I would check your DAC to see what that former boss put on their because normally Werner works with people who have been in jail or fired

I disagree. I don't think there are any "good" trucking companies to work for. The pay is low, they put you through hell, and there is no future with any of them.
I hear guys say they are making 80 to 100,000 ayear. Don't believe them folks. Most drivers only make between 20 to 30,000 a year. It's a crap job for crap pay. Go to school and get a college degree, or learn a trade. There is no money or future being a truck driver.

 

Why are they hiring? The hire because so many drivers leave the company. The need to put drivers into their trucks. These drivers get fed a load of B.S. to get them to hire on. Only to find out the info is B.S. They thought they had found a good company. They were wrong.

The easiest way to find a bad company is to look under Motor Carrier Questions- The Inside Scoop. They are listed right there, at the top of the page, for all to see. If you choose to work for about 95% of those companies, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I wish drivers would wake up and stay away from these companies! Come on people, we are better than that aren't we?

As for how recruiters are paid, I have no idea. In fact, I don't even care. The fact that a company even needs to have recruiters, sends up a warning sign. Just stay away from those companies. You will be much happier.
