Wow, it has only taken most of the day to make it through 74 pgs... I don't see much listed about the Dallas terminal, can anyone give me a heads up about it? I have to schedule my orientation there in two weeks.

Dallas Terminal has gotten their act together mostly, though I do believe the shop there is still extremely slow and they changed their parking situation so you have to walk a long way from the bobtail section to the nearest bathroom. If its still like it was when I was there, you will be greeted by an overbearing fat guy with a superiority complex whom thinks he's the smartest thing on two legs as your orientation guy. His name is Blake.

Thanks, I was supposed to be out there next week with some of my classmates from school, but 3 weeks ago they told me they weren't hiring from La, so my wife scheduled an out of town trip. As soon as she did they called me back to schedule...so I've pushed it back a few weeks.
I test out this week from a 20 week school...hope everything goes well. -
If you live in Michigan, Werner will straight up LIE to you. I trained with them in January to April, 300+ hours, was promised solo for .26 CPM, after I tested out in Springfield Oh., they said they had no runs to Michigan, basically I was laid off. They had work for me if I teamed for splitting .28 cpm. They train for cheap labor and cut you loose after you train. I asked them why they hired me in the first place, didn't get an answer. (click)

so now cant you get a job from somewere else now that you have trained for three mouths. -
unfortunately it didn't work that way, see when you live in Michigan, most companies will not hire you because of slow freight to this state. Although I'm thinking of a return, I just need to find a company and have some other questions answered like should I be an O/O if the opertunity presents itself or should I stay a company driver? Questions questions Questions! I was considering covenant, they don't require me to take a refresher.

I could be mistaken here... but isn't Covenant a team only operation? If so why would you go there after you already turned down teaming with Werner?

I've been following this Werner thread for a while now, and I'm going to have to make a decision to go or not go with them because my Other Half is about to be laid off and I need to get some income rolling in soon, even if it's just a little bit. Even with all the posts, I'm askign the samn question so many new drivers are asking: should I run far far away or take the chance on Werner so I can get started?
Is Werner going to be satan-on-wheels, or is there a chance it's a "what you make of it" situation...or somewhere in the middle? I'm just trying to find a way to work off my noob year and go from there. I graduated from a 384 hour school and I'm ready to get the wheels turning. I know there will be frustrations. -
I drove for Werner two years ago, and found that they were very accomodating and did what they could to take care of me. When I needed to be home, they got me there. When I wanted to run the weekends, they kept me busy. I always had good equipment, and never had a breakdown. I found them to be meticulous when it came to ensuring that the trailers and tractors were in good condition. With that being said, I could have made more money elsewhere, but made the trade off for better equipment and home time. I have almost twenty years experience and several years experience as an instructor and could have worked for a lot of other companies. I had one experience that was unfavorable, where I sat for several hours. In that case, I found that the customer was at fault, not Werner.
Also, try to understand that the economy is in very poor shape right now. The transportation industry always feels the results before anyone else. I sympathize with you, but things are tough at ALL trucking companies. Try not to blame Werner. I don't know how long you are able to run, but manage your time, and if you can, stay out over the weekend, and get going early coming out of the house. Also, communicate with your fleet manager if you have not already and voice your concerns. If you are dedicated to doing this, hang in there. It will get better. I wish you the best of luck and God's blessings. -
I currently work for Werner and they treated me ok so far. The only thing I was frustrated about was the 300 hours of being with a trainer. I had a good trainer but 300 hours took forever. it took me 6 weeks to do but other than that i haven't had any complaints so far. if you're just looking to get your experience in and maybe find something else in a year or 2 then werner wouldn't be a bad place to start. I'm a new driver myself and i hope in about a year from now the economy gets a little bit better so i can find me something local.
