Im a current Werner driver. I have been with Werner for 2 years. About the 48 stater driver that stated that he was'nt getting no miles. Well I guess It depends what account your in, or what you do in Werner. Im At the walmart Account In Gas city, Indiana. They are keeping us very bust there. If your really not getting the miles that you need. you should contact Driver replacement Monday moring. The reason is because driver quit or get fired over the weekend. So they dont replace anyone till the week day. Ummm, There will be time when Drivers replacment will tell you that there isn't any opening. But you should ask them the phone number for the DM that is in charge of the account you want to get in. That way the chances of getting in them accounts are greater. Another thing is that driver replacement doesn't alway have the right information. I called them 2 years ago and they told me they didn't have any opening in my area, But I got the DM'S number and he got me in the Walmart account. I average about 2,000-2,500 miles a week and get $15 dollars a stop. We can get up to 5 stops a day. So yea Try doing that. Hopley my information will help you. I had tought about leaving Werner but I choice to stay. The grass isn't always green in other companys.

Hey thanks for the great info. Im about to start with Roadmaster and Werner in mid Feb. any advice? you got on Raodmasters? or Werner?:biggrin_25511:

I returned today fro 30 days off. I understood that I would be given whatever was available, well today I was assigned a truck with over 569000 miles. First question, I was told that werner got rid of trucks with that many miles, what do i do? next, I started my inspection in the rain at mid day and still had not finished by the time shuttle came to go back to hotel, that being said I have two full pages of faults and defects and defects I told them that i will return AM tomorrow to turn in the sheet and the mec failures (blown high pressure fuel line and frayed damaged fan belt) then I would have to get approval ofr more time at the hotel because the truck is being repaired. Question, how do I deal with this trucka nd hotel sequence. I have tonight covered, but after that , I have not taken full assignmnet of truck. What do I tell my fleet assign person? I know i shoulda/coulda turned this inspection sheet today, but I was so angry after getrting int he truck, was a smoker who put his butts out on floor, had to spend almost 5 hours trying to clean that up, do I accept this truck and wait for the mec probs to be finished or ask for a different trruck and start all over?
I am going to check this periodically during the night, have to deal at 800am friday. Oh yea, fridays and repairs on a truck that is not under load.
I am out there guys and need advise.

Sounds like your trainer left you with no info on what to do when you get droped off to test out and get a truck. All problems need to be told to your Dispatcher. Let him know what is going on and tell him you need the hotel for a few days, because lets face it, with weekend staff being reduced you will more than likely be there all weekend. If you can't get anything done with the shop, call the Saftey Dept. in Omaha and let them know what needs to be done on the truck to make it safe to drive. All else fails, call your last trainer and make him do his job and help you out.

Thanks but not newby,I am coming back off of leave of absense. i have turned to my trainer, who is alway open to Qs, and asked what to do. he said turn in the inspections sheet tomorrow morning, right up the mec report then get my extension from dispatch. Problem, I wanted a new dispatcher when I came back, but got same one. so tomorrow I have to turn in report, two solid pages of inspection and see what breaks. Here in Indy they are taking days to get trucks repaired, and since I am not officially on my truck, it should not be hard to get my hotel extension and then wait out the truck problem.

thanks for the help. I'll check back periodically during the night to see if anyone else responds.

I do not know when this 2000-2500 mile thing was posted, but I can tell you it will not happen now. If you take 1000 off that you will be on the high side of what you get their now.

As for advice if you have not paid for school yet and it is not being paid for by somebody else, find a school for a different field. Quite honestly I would not get into this field at the present time.

quick iupdate on my situation. truck went into shop this morning. I was told it would be ready by mid afternoon. that is good news. better news, I went to check out and go to stay at terminal and was told I am schduled for room until Saturday. so i called dispatcher and he told to come out Saturday when i get the ruck. So all the worrying and I had my room covered. Sometimes thjings work out. Now all i gotta do is see some miles staring tomorrow. Good luck with that one?

As for the miles, i have talked to job placement weekly and been told not enough solo time, etcv for the account ai want I will take you adivse and get the District Manager for that accounts phone number. I am up for a dedicated with Kraft, it goes into my home area of champaign, IL

I am a Midwest Regional Driver, who is now on my third trip to the East Coast. I am really beginning to get annoyed at this. I understand my Dispatcher diud not work this weekend, but it will take them forever to get me back to the Midwest. Today they sent me a preassigned for NJ. Here is the kicker, had a midnight drop in Buffalo, hence East coast, so I contacted wknd dispatch and laid out how the pick up for monday at 0800 was imposssible, midnight drop and I would be out of hours. this person did everything but cuss at me. I laid it out multiple times and finally had the preassigned taken off of me. Gee do you think they want us to run illegally on hours? Question, have they changed the 10 hour rule? I got a msg that said I needed to take 8 hours off to reset my clock after 14 hours. I thought 10 hours was the Fed law?
One good thing about the trip to Buffalo, I am in the parking lot of a brand new Walmart for the night. I lived in the apts behind the Walmart when there was nothing here but a big old strip mall that was empty. At least there was some improvements to the area. Bad thing for me, money tight, so I can't go to one of my favorite places, Tim Horton's. Couldn't get the truck in there anyway. Colts v Saints in SupeerBowl, my weekend off.

That's just what they do. The weekend/night dispatchers at Werner seem particularly clueless. You just have to be persistent -- calm but firm.

In my experience, once it becomes clear that what they're asking you to do is illegal (and/or impossible), they'll back off. Keep in mind that a lot of these guys are inexperienced or distracted (dealing with a lot of stuff other than your situation), or both.

Seriously, going to the main terminal is a revelation: You'll find that the vast bulk of dispatchers there are really, really young.

As above, these guys often don't know what they're talking about. After receiving several totally off-the-wall answers to simple questions, I got to the point where I'd ask night dispatch about things I already knew just for entertainment value.

You can take an 8-hour sleeper break to halt your 14-hour timer, assuming it isn't already used up. You need ten consecutive hours of off-duty time to reset your 14-hour timer, though -- and that's probably what confused the dispatcher. Or, you'd already taken a 2-hour sleeper break somewhere in there.

I sympathize about being sent to the east coast. Hell, I live on the east coast, so I know as well as anyone how hard it can be to get away from it. That said, with freight being what it is, these days, it's not at all surprising, and maybe not even undesirable, that you're being sent to the busiest part of the country.
