I went to work for Werner as my starting out Co. after being screwed by KLLM . The training was very good , I was able to get a great trainer with 30 + years. At one point I had to get off the truck due to a family emergency, Werner gave me no hassle what so ever and said just call us when your ready to come back . I was impressed by this as many of you bash Werner a lot . Dont get me wrong Im still a Newb so I havent seen that much but my experiece so far has been way better than I expected going in. Im not gonna blow smoke up your ##### but so far so good , I get my first Solo load this week , whish me luck , P.S. Yeah I know we are slow out there , Im sorry it takes me 2 miles to pass someone but its not us its the truck , wish me luck, Roll on

    ave Thanks this.

Werner is not the highest paying Co. out there I dont know that much about prime but I see them alot out here so I know the have freight to move. I like werner so far but I always have my eye open for something better . My advice to you is DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!! look around on here the info on this foum is very informitive . Dont take all the negitive posts to heart though, some ppl just like to complain no matter what LOL , good luck in school , keep in touch

the Division i drive in I have to be out a min of 2 weeks then home for 2 days I can stay out longer if I want to , but werner has a lot of deticated accts. where your home every weekend, you just gotta pay your dues and fight a little to get on one .

Good to hear kowboy--good luck to you.

A lot of times--its how you take it and what kind of attitude you have. I worked for werner a few years ago and I never had no issues with them. They kept me on the east coast to the midwest but still had no big issues with them.

Hope it works out for you!

Best way I found to land a dedicated account is to find a driver on the account you want, make sure you qualify (distance from loading point can be a factor on some of the better accounts, like OfficeMax), and get the phone number for that account's dispatch. Driver Placement is just about useless, unless you want Dollar General or Family Dollar. Those are the only two accounts Driver Placement ever seems to have openings for. Understandable, with all the drivers who get hurt on the account, or just leave. Myself, I was on the General Mills account, and loved it! 2 weeks out (or more, my choice) with 2 days of hometime garaunteed. Even deadheaded my back to the house from MI, and then set me up for a Buffalo pick up, which paid most of my trip to the house. Never had to deal with out of route miles, routed my own fuel stops, and had all the miles I could grab, up until somebody in the office decided to run all my freight on the general fleet trucks...

Mike the thing you need to figure out is what is important to you , Hometime, Mileage, Eqipment etc. there are Thousands of companies out there , and most will hire students , LadyTrucker is right a lot of it is attitude, you have to be a "the glass is half full" kinda guy in this business

DG is no joke--it pays good but you work hard on that--there wouldn't be enough money for me to do that account. If you want to work hard then DG is for you--if you don't--then don't even attempt it.
