I haven't been assigned a truck yet. When I get to that point I'll let you know.

As far as appliances go, they have rules like, no inverters, no propane, but I imagine 12 volt appliances are ok.

Inverters are ok but they can only plug in , no hard wiring !

That keeps them in the 400w range 800 peak, that isn't much and if you draw to live power a lap tap the inverter alarm sometimes go off.

Thanks for the info about Werner. I know that they come to our school and have hired from us in the past.

Clamping to the batteries would let you run a big one. Disconect before you roll and disconnect the cables from inverter or hide it when going to the terminal. A pair of truck jumper cables connecting the inverter is safer than anything that can be installed with the exception of the fusible link some installations use.

I could have sworn that I could take perdium even with the personal deduction on a 1040 A.
Even if you take the perdium though i will not be the full amount. It is calculated at 80% of I think 52.00 a day, may be 53.00, other parts I am sure of.
So if your full perdium for the year would be 10,000 and there perdium paid to you was 8,000, you can still claim the other 2,000 on taxes. I have only seen one company that pays the full dally perdium and they actually were paying the driver too much. They gave the driver a full 52 a night. Which is 20% above what you an file for this year. Or was that last year lol, it has been going up 5% a year for several years now, till eventually it will be 100%, if they do not change the rule.

Either way, taking it during the year will effect your return, but it will not effect your pay. The issue that myself and some others have with company perdium is when they count this as part of your regular pay, or lower your mileage rate and give you extra perdium instead.
Central does this. every driver at the company gets paid perdium and it is .08 cpm of your pay. So if they are giving you .32 cpm, your actual rate they are paying you at is .24 cpm. That is a really low pay rate, since the perdium is a reimbursement that you would have gotten anyway at the end of the year.
So my feeling is, if a company wants to help me out by paying me perdium it should be on top of a decent rate.

There are many tax prep people certified or not that do this wrong. I wish they would train them better. But this is why going to a professional that knows trucking is so important.

I'm not sure if this has already been brought up - haven't had the time to read all 23 pages yet.
But my bf is at 250hrs out of the 300 hrs he needs to drive supervised with Werner. He's hoping to hit 300 hrs by then end of this week.
After his 300 hrs with a trainer is over - what can he expect to happen?
Will he get a solo truck soon? Will the partner him up? He actually has 1 guy in mind he'd like to partner with but that guy is only at the 125 hr mark so he has a long way to go.....

In some areas they require teaming and in areas they offer both. It depends what their needs are at that given time. Have him ask his trainer to find out what the situation is for his area.

When I went through orientation there, the way they explained it to us was once you hit your hours, they will drop you off at the closest terminal to get your own truck. Then will work to route you back towards your home so you can put your stuff in the truck.

    Good luck to him!

wow, finally read the WHOLE thing.

Much of it was above my head but I also got a lot of info to pass along to the bf.

My bf would actually prefer to be a solo driver but heard you make more money as a team. So if he has to be teamed up for more money (I don't think Werner told him he HAD to team up though) he has a friend in mind that he met in orientation. They both are from the same city and agreed to team up.
But even though they started at the same time, my bf's friend's hours are going very slowly compared to his.
My bf was hoping he could drive solo until his friend finishes his 300 and then they could team up.

The bf THINKS he'll be done this Friday. Should he start bugging Werner about where he'll end up now, before his hours are even up? Who exactly does he call. Him and his trainer are not on the best of terms, I could right a whole novel on how inadequate his trainer is but I just don't have the time. Anyway that's why I'm asking so much on here. We caan't go to his trainer on much...

He also said that his trainer will be the one to test him. The bf requested that the trainer test him secretly so he doesn't get nervous and make stupid mistakes but the trainer refuses and told my bf he will tell him when he will test him. I have no idea what the 'test' is even going to be or when.

The bf is looking for a dedicated route, we live in central NJ, is there any route he should request? One that doesn't require loading?

He's hoping to stay on the East Coast and not do all 48 but, of course, he has to go wherever they send him, and he will because he needs the job.

Thanks to everyone who's added to this post. It's really helped a newbie's gf like me out.
