The simulator only exists in Omaha. I believe CL uses it to pretent he is still a truck driver.

We had a Werner recruiter at our school today. He told us that the 'training time' was 250 hours. Have they changed since a few weeks ago?

Things change pretty much every day/week. The recruiter told me 300 hours with the trainer.

$325/week for the first half of training
    $350/week for the second half.

6-8 weeks of training total. (I thought you just told me 300 hours?) Not sure what counts as an "HOUR"

You can go out for 3 weeks, take a week home and then go out an additional 3 weeks. (where did the 8 weeks come from).

If you go out and stay out until you serve out....errrrr...I mean complete your "training", then they will pay you an additional $500.

Are you driving team? If so, you will be out with your co-driver for 5 weeks, go home a week (while he/she solos while you are at home), then pick you up and you take him/her home and you solo for a week while he/she's at home and then you guys are back together for another 5 weeks.

With regard to what they tell you...believe it only after it happens.

Thanks for you informative statement on Werner. I to have heard so many bad opinions about the company and as I have reasearched the trucking industry, it is apparent that most truckers expectations and education has proven to be a better gage of what is truely the problem with the high turnover with the transportations industry.

Great thread with lots of good info for most of us. Companies are only as good as their people and there are people I like and those I do not like but get along with. In my previous life I was a senior manager and I always had the 10% that did not do a good job and I am sure some did not like me. But the 90% made the job good. It is the same with trucking companies I imagine. I also found that always project a positive attitude even if you left it somewhere.

Werner's training program is a well conceived process that is easy to administer, provides tools for fair measurement and ensures trainees learn what is necessary. In theory. However, that is where the success of the program falls apart.

Werner has NO standards to guide how trainers are selected. Because there are no standards, anyone who raises their hand is selected. You are as likely to get a useless sloth as a trainer as you are someone who resembles a professional. Those trainers who are making $60K a year are likely to be broke and borrowing money from their trainees.

I feel certain this isn't just a Werner problem. I imagine it is industry wide. Much the same way that many truck drivers resemble homeless people with no social graces, no class, no common sense, and appear more like bacteria in a petri dish than a human being I feel certain that until leadership admits there are significant problems with training nothing will change.
