    oops... quoted the wrong message!!

Anyway.. I got lucky. I have a CB (one of those Harley-Davidson Cobras) and my GPS was free. A gift from a friend. I will always carry an atlas and I'm super anal about double-checking my route before I trust the GPS.

Have you run all the updates? If not I would suggest doing so on your next home time. There is a cobra thread with a Cobra company guy (Brian at Cobra) explaining how it works and giving tips on how to use it and taking suggestions for product updates etc..

Look for Truckers' Trucking Toys & Tools then Electronic Connection there is more then 1 Cobra thread, but any of the threads started by Brian at Cobra should be able to help.

I also use both Google maps and mapquest, the satellite or aerial views are great. I have also found that sometimes when google maps will not locate an address that mapqwest will. I also send my findings to Google maps all the time, look for a small box in the lower right corner that says "report a problem" to do this.

I totally agree, a tool is only as good as the person that wields it.

If your having trouble with your GPS, atlas, fuel stop book, truck stop book, hammer, screwdriver, chainsaw, TV remote or whatever then talk to someone that knows how to use it. There are online tutorials for almost everything now.

One of the first thing I made sure my son learned is to "Always read the instructions". He still does to this day.

I do understand many modern electronic devices do NOT come with instructions but they are almost always available at the company website for whatever device you may have purchased.

PS: Almost forgot to mention that I have on more then one occasion received bad routing from dispatch and the GPS had the same route (before I got my truck GPS that is). My second GPS is for trucks and hasn't let me go on any restricted or low clearance routes, but I still check the Atlas for restrictions and low clearances, I guess old habits die hard. LOL

I haven't checked in here in ages...I've since finished up college (again) and am still in the Southeast region, thinking of hitting the pavement again. I've gotten some new ink since the last posting, too...

Since I don't check in here at all any more, if you want to contact me via Facebook - the link to my page is in my About Me section here. Basically, I like people and don't bite...And love hearing road stories as well. :)

I apologise if there have been many replies to me that I've missed over the last couple of years, and I sincerely hope that all of the newbies who had posted have done well within the company since then.

The site isn't letting me read anything past page 21, either; I'm sure I missed a thing or two. Hopefully nothing too horrific. ;)

I've never driven for Werner nor would I stoop to driving for them. My instinct tells me that this thread is a propaganda or misinformation piece by Werner. To counteract all the bad things being said about Werner. Anyone with half a brain can see this by. The way it's written.

Well, I will thrown in my experience up to date. I am greenhorn, wet behind the ears rookie with not even an hour of post cdl training seat time.

However, I hired on with Werner last week. So far...so good. I made it through the two day orientation here at the Henderson terminal. They have put me up in the hotel since last Tuesday night on their dime. I completed orientation last Thursday night. They have continued to put me in the hotel on their dime while I wait for my trainer to arrive. On top of that I am getting paid $400 a week while I wait and the same rate applies when my trainer picks me up.

Their training regimen is 275 hours long before you are allowed to test out for your own truck.

First thing I did Thursday afternoon was activate my TFS card. Then I calledy SDM. She was not available so I left her a message. The next morning I called her again and established contact, introduced myself, we chatted and she extended my stay at the hotel and got me a small advance so I get some food.

My trainer called Friday night and said he would be in Denver Saturday afternoon if the weather cooperated. It did not cooperate but we have stayed in contact each day. I have relayed his messages to my SDM and to the people at the Henderson terminal to keep them in the know.

A representative of fhe company showed up at the hotel this morning asking if I had been in contact with my trainer and when I expected to checkout of the hotel. I told her I hadnt yet talked to my trainer today (Monday) and that as soon as I did I would notify her. When I made contact I not onoy notified her BUT my SDM as well.

Is that really my job or my place? probably not, but it took so little effort to go that extra mile and maybe two or three minutes out of my day and it wasnt a big deal. I had the rest of the day to watch tv, movies and play on the internet and didnt have anyone calling blowing my phone up demanding answers or asking questions. So in essence I mitigated my responsibilities to a minimum by being proactive and went on about my business.

I have found out in the past that proactive communication will go along way in keeping you on the good side of those in authority above you.

I continue to wait for my trainer. And thats as far as I have gone in the process.

At this point I have NOTHING bad to say about Werner. I opted for team driving, $0.34 a mile AND a $3,750 sign-on bonus for each member of the team.

This company took me in off the streets (was staying with friends for a week since losing my last place to live because I was broke), put me up in a hotel at their expense, gave me an advance so I could eat and is paying me $400 to sit around and wait for my trainer. I am a (recently) homeless female, recent college grad and hungry to work and support myself after having not been able to find a job in my degree field.

So far, I am very thankful. Truth be told I was hesitant at first and they were not in my top 10 choices but things are looking better.

I will update this as my training and career progress with Werner.

I have heard good, bad and in between about them. But I will reserve my judgements until I am aways into it. for now I bid thee adieu.

I will also add, I am not paid, blackmailed, enticed or bribed by Werner Enterprises to come here and post propaganda or put in good favor for Werner. review my post history if you wish.

I am only here to relay my experience as I see it through my perspective.
