do your research on different companies. Im going with werner myself cause well you gotta start somewhere and you cant really take all of the negative comments seriously but just do your research man and it will come to you

This is only my opinion, but I've been with both Werner and USX. I wasn't with either that long.
Werner, complete utter POS truck. When said something about it, I was told, "You're only a Canadian driver". The mechanics can over ride safety, at least in unSprungfield Ohio. Many negatives relating to Breakdown. I will say, my fleet manager and his assistant, the people in Milton, Ontario, and a woman named Lee in Omaha, were really decent. I can't say enough good about them. The rest of the company,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
USX. I was never so miserable in my life. After 8 months with them, I still don't think my fleet manager had a clue who I was. I really had the impression they didn't care for us "Yankees". I was lied to from day one. I hired in to do mostly Canada for them. I was there 6 times. Another guy and I that did border crossings daily at another company, caught them outright lying to the whole orientation class about customs. I won't repeat the story the old witch at Medway related to the class. Their fleet maintenance was abysmal, and yup, they lied as well. Almost every load was at least a "hot" load, then the "red hot load", and even worse, the dreaded "super red hot load", that one was when you were on hometime of course.
The good thing at USX? I did have a nice truck, a Volvo 780, and I did make more per mile, but sat more than anywhere else.

My advice? I feel you could do much better than either of these losers. But I know you have to start somewhere, and you may even end up liking either one. But do yourself a favour, keep asking about other companies, CALL them, don't rely on a website. Then compare notes.:biggrin_25525:

Good luck to ya, no matter where ya go.:biggrin_25525:

i was with werner for about a month before i got terminated for a u turn, i liked werner a lot never had trouble with maintenance in fontana ca. I ran good with them and made decent money. Yea my first truck with them wasnt the best it was a 06 classic that was falling apart, but it got me to where i needed to be with no problems. When your just starting out your on the bottom of the totem pole your gonna get the worst of the worst just gotta be firm with the dispatchers and maint. and sooner or later itll be a somewhat smooth ride.

my experience with US Xpress was good. with your residence being in Ohio, they have very nice dedicated runs out there. however you need to get your foot in the door first to get a shot at it.

dont listen to all the trucker banter regarding companies. so many people are quick to bash a company. all you can do is pick a company thats offering a good pay and benefits and most importantly, if you feel comfortable with how things are going when you get there.

I'm glad you're happy there. I wasn't, and nothing in any post I make about any company is embellished. I simply had a poor experience with USX, and related it as truthfully as I could. Everyones mileage will vary, you may not have cared for my last company.

You did give good advice about the pay and see how things are once there. But let me add to that. Keep a good attitude as much as possible. When it becomes next to impossible, it's time to move on.:biggrin_25525:

yeah i just read that post about werner i myself had a bad experience with them. well i never went to work for them but i had a bad exp with a recruiter because i quite frankly think he needed his head examined lol. i have 7 months experience and they still want me to go out with a trainer for 8 weeks....(no offense to anybody with what im about to say) i returned my statement to him with this i asked him if he needed me to go out with his drivers to show them how to drive a truck or something cuz i know good and well im not going out for 2 months to learn to drive when i have already been driving for 7 months

wow, they had me go out with a trainer cause i was under their 6 month requirement, which i was like alright sure could always learn something new and it was only 140 hours. But in your situation i can see why you didnt do it. I enjoyed my time at werner just sucks i made the mistake i did. Oh well maybe after i work for usx for awhile ill be able to get on with a better company.
