I am looking for some honest opinions, not the usual bashing of companies. Mostly looking for people who have worked at one or the other or both. Which company would be the best way to go?
Werner or Western Express

A trucking company is what YOU make of it. I drive for Werner and I have no complaints. As long as YOU keep your equipment up to par by doing your pretrips daily, not wrecking or petty accidents, and not getting tickets you will be fine. I plan on staying for a max of three years to pay off my bullcrap loan from PAM while getting my experience.

Do they get you decent miles on a regular basis? I know western is offering more money, but thats not so important if you hate where you work in my opinion.

Like any company, just getting in the business you have to prove yourself and be on time for your loads. If they offer you a shag (less than 100 mile load) in between take it. Let them know you're willing to work from showing them. Winter is always slow compared to other seasons, but if you have time, always check with your FM to see if you can catch a load nearby to keep yourself moving. Never just sit there and wait for them to contact you on the qualcomm. To dispatchers that looks lazy. Loads generally differ with being steady if you are on a dedicated account or OTR 48 state. The same goes for both though. The worst they can say is they don't have a load at the time, but its worth the trouble trust me. Yesterday would have been a wasted day if I didn't call my FM to see what was needed at the time. I delivered two trailers from Jackson,AL that needed maintenance. I ended up getting 600 miles more than if I would have just waited on the qualcomm. Always be aware of your surroundings also.
Boogers Thanks this.
