Just a quick reminder. Although it has been mentioned in this thread, I thought I would bring up the point that the $59.00 per day, per diem deduction is only worth $47.20 per day.
80% of $59.00 = $47.20.
Thanks

I've been reading through this thread and haven't figured out whether companies can force you to take per diem. And if they can, what if they don't tell you about it?
My w-2 shows my total cpm wages, but now I learn the company claims .075 cpm of that as reimbursed expenses. I learned this because I am being audited.
I'm still waiting for a formal statement from the company to give to the IRS. I'm not ready to divulge which company, but it is not Werner or one of the other mega's. -
So take about 10% federal tax saved and it's actually $4.72 you are gaining each day. You can get two hotdogs, chips and a drink with that.
Because we exempt from many labor laws and paid by the mile, trucking companies have found another way to fatten their pockets.
Gov't employees and other hourly traveling trades get seperate tax free perdiem checks in the amount of $59-$85 a day on top of their normal paycheck That's how the program is suppose to work. But since you live in a truck it all gets twisted around. -
they can charge you this fee for per diem becaues our goverment they can also make you do per diem because of a change to taxe law in 2005 chip
